Remember the a) Details of chakra-s are mentioned in Sri lalitA sahasranAma in brahmANDa purANa. As you yourself pointed out that gItA is terse and many secrets are hidden in it, may be one could read this in bhagavad gItA (for example, see Swami Yogananda's commentary). In general, the matter of kuNDalini yoga is hidden. Kanchi paramAchArya Sri chandrasekharendra sarasavatI swamiji discusses this matter in his book on saundaryalahari (sixth volume of deyvaththin kural). b) Regarding the sapta dvIpAs, may be its depiction in like a projection in a particular plane. For instance, we draw the world map in more than one way on a flat sheet by using different projections, but in reality it is a surface of a sphere. In one sense, what we write or speak is a projection of notion/idea into words. Hence, approximations happen at all levels. Especially this matter becomes complex when higher spatial dimensions are involved. There is a mathematics book published by Dover on 4th dimension (space) brings this out clearly [1]. Some higher dimensional ideas, when projected and explained to lower dimensional beings may even sound ridiculous. Some of our religious thought, such as a great space inside the heart, which is the substratum of all and which interconnects all (narAyaNa sUktam) may be understood better with this in mind.
