Guest guest
OM SrIguruH sarva kAraNa BUtA SaktiH. OM SrIman mahA gaNAdhipatayE namaH. OM guruH brahma guruH viShNuH guruH dEvO mahESvaraH guruH sAxAt paraM brahma tasmai SrIguravE namaH. guruH (The 'gu' syllable and 'ru' syllable) , in one sense is given by a~jjAna timirAndhasya ~jjAj~jana SalAkayA caXurunmIlitaM Eva tasmai SrIguravE namaH. gu - a~jjaNAdhakAraM ru- ~jjAna jyOti. If we bring in visarga sandhi,we got OM gururbrahma gururviShNuH gururdEvO mahESvaraH gurussAxAt paraMbrahma tasmai SrIguravE namaH. If I 'passed on' this Slokam, I usually take the meaning like this without giving much thought: teacher is 'like' brahma - the 'creator'. teacher is like 'viShNu' the 'preserver'. teacher is like 'MahESvara' - the recycler. teacher like the parabrahmA - unity of the above said triad - in front of your eyes. "tasmai SrI guravE namaH" - I am thus giving a passing/timebeing namaskAraM to SrI prefixed(it is custom to put prefix of SrI to mAnyata) to teacher. Is this what this SlOkaM conveying? If this is all, this SlOkaM, then I would not be writing about this SlokaM here. Let me STOP. Let me take second look at this SlOkaM. There is NO upma or IDlii here, there is no upamAna, upamEyAs here. or simple terms, there is no 'like' clause here in the SlOkaM. guru 'IS' brahma. guru 'IS' ViShNuH. guru 'IS' mahEsvaraH. guruH sa+akShAt paraMbraHma. " This saraswati is said to be a stream which journeying upwards and flowing underneath (UrdhwavAhini and antarvAhini). The stream which has been pouring down from the face of brahma into the samudra (ocean) is in the avarOhana (descending) and again when it is lifting the ajnAni jeeva (samudra) upwards towards his abode in the brahmalOka, it appears like ascending (Arohana). " Please take the context of this para from SrIparasukhAnanda nAthA's post on sarasvati: /message/8566 "Stream" - here is axam, or 'Axis' (that explains the why call it as 'axis', right?). This the C.G (enter of gravity) or support to hold on to navigate all the way upto the source. Who else can be source, if not paraMbrahma?. The "Axis of ~jjAnaM", which should be tread upon to have 'svasvaRupa vEdyaM'. As 'sun zu' said written as 'Tao te ching' "Journey of a thousand miles, but starts with a single step, and then also one step at a time". See, in the axaM/streaM, to reach(to see myself as) paraMbrahma, whose feet should I be getting hold of? 'You become what you eat' - from a campaign on vegetarian eating promation by PennState (State of Pennsylvania, where I reside) Iskcon students' group. I say 'You become what you see in your guru'. I see a street God in him(in guru), No doubt he is that, he is 'much much more' than that, that's the point. I will be , at max, a street God. Then why should not I see 'paraMbrahma' in him? Here I am talking guru is masculine form, as I become inclined like that.It is not to intimidate or do any other impositions to put on SishyAs that see their guru in female form. come on, we are talking on paraMbrahmaM.give it a break on sexes. Thus SrIguruH is paraMbraHma, indeed. paraMbrahma's rUpaM is ~jjAnaM itself. So there is no other paraMbrahma exists besides whatever ~jjAnaM, you see, feel, taste in your guru. Because you have seen it, tasted it, there you go, you can show this ~jjAnaM to your SiShyAs down the stream. axaM is eternal. You just witnessing that axaM. Thus you are sa-Axi, sAkshi. guruH sAxAt paraMbrahma. now it is not any more " tasmai SrI guravE namaH", but now, it is " tasmai SrIguravE namaH". Now I am not only stopped. I become still, stalled unto find myself in my SrIguru. If that's not the goal of life, whatelse will be? OM aiM hrIM SrIM SrIguru paraMbrahmaNE namOnnamaH iti, prasAda. SrIgurucaraNArpitamastu. Please forgive me , for all my mistakes.
