Guest guest
A couple of messages indicated the dates for Vasntha Navaraathri to be between 30th March 2006 and 7th April 2006, while my mail message on this subject mentioned it as between 30th March 2006 and 6th April 2006. Some of the members may get confused and may be wondering which is correct. I am sending this message to share my understanding on this: Navaraathri begins from Prathamai Thithi and goes on Till the Navami Thithi followed by Vijaya Dasami when the Devine Mother destroys all the evil forces to help 'Deva Karyams' to continue without any interruption, vide ' Chidagni GuNTa SamBhootA Deva KArya SamuDhatA' - Sri Lalithaa Sahasranaamam. Sometimes it happens that two Thithis fall on the same day and leading to a shortage of a 'Raathri' to make it algebraically a 'Navaraathri'. Under such circumstances, the Navarathri just concludfes the night preceding Vijaya Dasami. This time on the very first day that is on 30th March 2006, both the Ththis Prathamai and Dvithiyaai fall and cause what is called as a 'Thithidwayam'. And on 7th April 2006, Dasami begins in the early part of the morning itself. That is why the ending date as given in my message fell on 6th of April 2006. This does not mean that we do not have to do any Pujaa on 7th April 2006. Can there be any limit for praying our Devine Mother! Never. In fact I used to continue the Pujaa for the Nineth Raathri too, even any intervening 'Ththidwayam' algebraically gives only 'Eight Raathris'. May Her directives help us all!
