Guest guest
First, I would like to thank Mani for setting up this group. I am new to the net-world. The only person I know in this group is Mani and that too through the Internet. In the interest of making this group a little less impersonal I would like to provide some details about myself here. I came to this country in 1978 as a graduate student. I graduated from U of Houston in 1984 in the field of Management Science. After a year of experimenting in India I joined the faculty of U of TN at Chattanooga. Malathy, my wife, and I have two children, Aravind (13) and Amirtha (11.) BTW, I like Mani's musing about the name for this group. It is my understanding that the Lord gave us the path of prapatti in the sarama sloka of Sri Geetha with the mortals such as ourselves in mind who find the path of karma, gyana, and bhakti too demanding. It is this age old religion of prapatti that Sri Ramanuja brought back to popular practice. Therefore I vote to change the name to PRAPATTI from BHAKTI, if that is possible and if the others feel likewise.

It certainly is possible, and what I'll probably do is set it up so that either alias will work. The interesting point is, isn't "phala-bhakti", i.e., bhakti as an end in and of itself, very important to us? I am trying to make a distinction between bhakti as a means (upaaya) and bhakti as a goal, since all of us are trying to presumably achieve unbridled, loving devotion to the Lord.
