Guest guest
Dear Members of the Prapatti Group: I am forwarding as per the request of Sri Dileepan a posting that he was kind enought to send to me.He has indeed done an excellent analysis of the tasks to be undertaken by all of us. I will be more than happy to work closely with Sri Dileepan and all of the volunteers to work on this project, which comes about once in one"s life time. I am thrilled to see the enormity of the response from all of you and offer of help in collecting material for the story board. As in the case of any presentation material , CONTENT and BALANCE are the key factors to realize a Quality CD ROM. All of those familiar with Video know that there are two problems in including them in CD ROMs.One is the hogging of Memory and the other is the Jerkiness of the Video in the absence of the MPEG type of assistance. Hence, I agree that , we shall use VIDEO sparingly. the 630 MB of CD ROM will also be eaten up by Audio files. A Judicious selection is absolutely essential. THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS IS TO KNOW , WHO WILL VOLUNTEER FOR WHAT. Good suggestions have been made regarding the sources .Please send material or lend them to Sri Dileepan. I will be in close touch with him. We want every value-add, we can get from our fellow members. This project is not my or Sri Dileepan"s project. It is a Bhagavat Kainkaryam for all of us. It will take time to assemble the material, organize the content , proof read written proof read material, etc. As December and January season is about to dawn on Us, may we request the India bound members to take the photos, collect materials and forward them to Sri Dileepan, who has kindly agreed to hold the archives for this project. This summer, I went thru the steps of making a CD ROM as a part of my NYU digital multimedia center project. Based on that experience, i know enormity of work to be done. We are all volunteers and therefore, it is going to take a little longer than professional companies. When the time comes to "burn in" the CD Rom, we would have to approach a professional producer to do the Lingo Or Multimedia programming to link the content. If HTML will do, we need volunteers there too. IN SUMMARY, WE ALL HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER AS NEEDED TO MAKE PROGRESS ON THIS PROJECT. LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU ALL IN WEEKS TO COME. PLEASE SEND IN YOU RCOMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS ON THE CONTENTS OF THIS POSTING .THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP. Sadagopan" <75041.3037 In- Your message of 13 Nov 95 21:31:25 EST Dear Sri. V. Sadagopan, I will be out of town all day on Wednesday. I will be able to give you feed back only on Thursday. I have prepared a list of 108 diva desams + a few abimana sthalams. They are grouped into 16 groups. Some groups are longer than others. I may have classified some temples wrong. Therefore, the list needs to carefully checked. My intention is that we post this list of groups to the members of the prapatti group and ask for volunteers to coordinate the collection of materials for each group. Volunteers may choose the group they wish. Each coordinator may subdelegate the task if they want, but should take up the responsibility for their group. We will also need some highly knowledgeable people to review the materials collected by each cordinator for accuracy and relevance. Unlike the Divya Prabhandam project we will not have the ability to correct mistakes after the publication. Our first task is to proof-read the list and post it to the prapatti members. While I am away would you please review the list and post it. I request you to the lead this project while I will serve you any way I can. ===========PLEASE POST THE FOLLOWING IN PRAPATTI========== This is a call for volunteers for coordinating data collection for the 108 temples project. Each person willing to coordinate is requested to choose one group of temples and organize the data collection. The types of data may include, but not limited to: 1) Good quality photos of utsava moorthees gopuram, surrounding area, festivals, etc. (magazine photos may have 2 problems, quality, copyright) 2) Text material including sthala puraanam special occassions like pavithrOsthavam, etc. description of how to get there, train/bus route, taxi, etc. facilities available for food, overnight stay, etc. 3) Literature Azhvaar paasurams, Other paasurams by aachaaryaas like Swami Sri Desikan, other monographs like the one by our own Sri. Sadagopan about Thiruchchithrakoodam, etc. 4) Audio materials (in cassette form, may be converted later) Azhvaar paasurams and other prabhandams, lectures like the ones mentioned by Sri. Sreekrishna, sthothrams, etc. Some ratioing of space may have to be done later due to space constraint, but for now we should collect anything relevant. 5) Video material This must be only for something really special due to extreme space requirement. If anything is missing from the above list feel free to post suggestions. Viji's uncle's collection will be an invauable source for material. If he will part with it for a few months it will be great. I will be more than willing to organize the distribution of the material to each coordinator and gather them back for safe return to Viji's uncle. For any material collected we must give proper credits. Please make sure we have the permission in writing and proper information for giving accurate credits.
