Dear Memebrs of the Prapatti Group:

On this Yuva Year, Makara Month , Krishna Paksha

Panchami, Hastha Nakshatram day, Let us pay our

tribute to the one , Who gave his hastham to us thru

his composition of the Pancha Stavas . That is

Srivatsankamisra or Kuresa known in Tamil as

Kooratthzhwan. His dates are 1010-1116 AD. It

is amazing how many of our Acharyas lived the full

Veda Prayam in those days . Perhaps ,their Aacharam ,

Anushtaanam and Acharya Bhakthi were the reasons

for that remarkable phenomenon .

He was born in Kuram, a village close to Kanchi .He

assisted his Acharya Sri Ramanuja(1017-1137AD)

in writing Sri Bhashyam. Besides that remarkable

service to Visishtaadvaitam, he blessed us with five

devotional lyrics known as " Atimaanushastavam,

Varadarajastavam, Vaikuntastavam, SRISTAVAM,

and the Sundarabahustavam". There are other works

attributed to him and Sri Vedantha Desikan quotes from

them. Those works are extinct now.His son was the

Great Parasara Bhattar, who commented on Sri Vishnu

Sahasra Namam and wrote Ashtasloki, Srigunaratna Kosa,

Srirangarajastava and the commentary on few verses of

Thirunedumthaandakam. Thus Kuresa is a vital link in the

chain of Sri Bhagavad Ramanuja Siddhantham.

Tonight, I will compose with Kuresa"s blessing

the companion posting focussing

on the SRI STAVAM OF KURESA and

relate it to the Catusloki of Alawandaar and the many

tributes to Sri Devi by others that followed Kuresa including

his precocious son Parasara Bhattar. Almost all of them

including Swami Desikan have focussed on Sri Ranganayaki

as their source of Inspiration to bless us with their tributes

to SRI DEVI .

LET ME CONCLUDE THIS MORNING'S POSTING WITH THE TANIYAN FOR

KURESA,OUR BELOVED ACHARYA , WHO DEFIED A KING

AND STOOD HIS GROUND for SRI VAISHNAVAM :

SRIVATSACIHNAMISREBHYO NAMA UKTIM-ADIMAHE

YADUKTAYASTRAYEEKANTHE YAANTI MANGALASUTRATAM
