Two days back. I tried sending the following mail to the Bhakti group, but I

believe

the mail did not go through. So I am sending the mail again. If it is

duplicated, please accept my sincere apologies.

With the help of one of our Bhakti group members,

I have been going through literaure to help me better understand the

lakshanas of Salagramas. This is motivated by a desire

to be able to identify the

particular incarnation of Sri Maha Vishnu resident in a given Salagrama,

identify which Salagramas are worshippable and which ones are not, etc.

Perhaps because I do not have enough background, the literature that I

have studied alone has not

helped me in this direction. All the books and articles I have found so far

describe IN WORDS the lakshanas of the different forms of the Salagrama, but

none of them contain pictorial depictions or phtographs of any of the different

forms they describe. Thus, for instance, when the text says there will

be four chakras, it is uncelar what a chakra is supposed to look like, how

the four chakras are situated with respect to each other, etc. Similarly, when

they say a particular Salagrama is "large", it is unclear what the size being

referred to is.

So I am looking for some guidance on any references where either photographs

or pictorial representations of the different Salagramas may be found, or

any contacts to persons who have the expertise and experience in throwing

additional light on this topic.

With Sincere Regards,

Narasimhan Krishnamachari
