PLEASE READ THIS EMAIL CAREFULLY BEFORE SUBSCRIBING

OR POSTING.

Hello,

You are receiving this message because you are a new member

of the Bhakti mailing list, or you have requested more

information about this electronic forum.

The Bhakti list is dedicated to discussing Visistadvaita Vedanta

philosophy and Sri Vaishnavism. Sri Vaishnavism is one of

India's principal religious traditions, with a long and

colorful philosophical, literary, and social history, dating

back at least 1500 years. Its philosophy of Visishtadvaita

continues to be one of the dominant schools of Vedanta,

the orthodox philosophy of Hinduism.

This mailing list was started by five of us in May, 1994.

As of this writing, there are over 100 members of the group,

all of whom are interested in the philosophy and devotionalism

of the Azhvaars, the rishis of the Upanishads, Sri Ramanuja,

and their spiritual successors.

This is an informal discussion group; consider it a large

living room of sorts, welcoming people from all backgrounds.

The only assumption is that you consider yourself a devotee of

the Lord, are inclined towards that direction, or are interested

in scholarly inquiry in Sri Vaishnavism.

If you are not already d to this list, you can do

so via email. To find out how, see the sections below.

Mani

------------------------------

PLEASE SEND OUT A PERSONAL INTRODUCTION TO THE LIST

ONCE YOU HAVE READ THIS.

----------------

Brief Guidelines

----------------

Basically, any question or comment that is related

to Sri Vaishnavism in all its aspects is fair game.

PLEASE do not send binary files, encoded files,

Postscript, etc. These are unreadable by most

people and clog up our mailboxes.

Please remain courteous, and please take a moment

before you send your message to think of whether

you are going to unnecessarily offend anyone, or if your

ego is speaking rather than yourself. Strong opinions

are very welcome; rude and offensive ones are not.

This is a private mailing list and I reserve the right

to remove anyone who is being disruptive or who is

harrassing others.

--------------

Using the list

--------------

For those of who have d, here is the relevant

excerpt from the help file:

bhakti - post a message to the list

bhakti-request - send /subsingle/,

etc. commands.

bhakti-owner - send mail to the maintainer of the

list (me)

NOTE: You can send multiple commands in one message to

the bhakti-request address.

Subscribing

-----------

To to the digest version of the list, send email

to the bhakti-request address of the list. The body of the

message should contain the keyword '', without

quotation marks.

In other words, your message would be:

or

your-email-address

To to the single-message-per-mail version (what I

call the "reflector version"), use the 'subsingle' command

instead of the '' command.

I approve all requests manually, so it may take a day

or two before you are added to the list.

Posting from Multiple Email addresses

----

By default, this list only allows d addresses to

post messages to the list. You can add other addresses to

the list with the `alias' command:

alias other-email-address

This allows you to post from the list from another email-address

without the list distribution being sent to that address. You can

add as many aliases as you like.

Unsubscribing

-------------

To from the bhakti list, send the

command as follows:

or

email-address

Please only contact me about subscription/unsubscription

requests if all your attempts at doing it via email to

the bhakti-request address have failed. I appreciate your

cooperation in this matter.
