Here the AzhwAr talks about sri rAmA and explains the beauty of thiruvallikkENi. -Viji baradhanum thambi chatthuruk kanannum ilakkuma NnOdumai dhiliyum iravunNan pagalum thudhiseyya nNinRa iraavaNaanN dhaganaiyem maanai, kuravamE kamazhum kuLirpozhi loodu kuyilodu mayilgaLnNin Raala, iraviyin kadhirgaL nuzhaidhalsey dhaRiyaath thiruvallik kENikkaN dEnE. (2) 2.3.7 A free translation: ------------------- I (AzhwAr) was blessed to have the dharshan of sri rAmA who was always prayed by bharathA-chathrukna and lakshmaNa-mythili, the rAmA who killed rAvaNA, the rAmA who is my Lord, at thiruvallikkENi. ThiruvallikkENi is a place filled with the fragrance of the kurava flowers, in pleasant cool groves where cuckoos and peococks dance. It is a place where the suns's rays cannot penetrate. (This describes the place filled with big dense trees which prevent the sun's rays and thereby providing nice shadow) Word for word Translation: -------------------------- bharadhanum thambi chathruknanum- ********************************** bharatha and his brother chathrukna. chatrukna is always with bharatha and accompanies him wherever he goes so they both are paired together ilakkumanOdu maithiliyum- ************************* LakshmaNa and mythili (sita): Sri PBA explains the reason for pairing LakshmaNA with sItA through this reference, " na cha sItA thvayA hInA nachAhamapi rAghava-muhoorthamapi jIvAvO jalAn mathsyA vivOththruthow" (the translation goes something like this: LakshmaNA tells rAmA,"oH rAghavA, You and sItA are inseparable and so am I. like a fish in water..." - could somebody help me out here.. iravu n^an pagalum thudhi seyya n^inRa- ***************************************** They are praying to Him day and night, always with Him, (iravu - night, pagal - day, thudhi - prayer) irAvaNAn^dhaganai emmAnai- *************************** My Lord, the one who killed rAvaNA kuravamE kamazhum kuLir pozhiloodu- ************************************* The cool groves filled with the fragrance of the kurava flowers (kuravam - a flower, pozhil - grove) kuyilodu mayilgaL n^inRAla- ***************************** Where the cuckoos and peacocks dance iraviyin kadhirgaL n^uzhaidhal seydhaRiyA ****************************************** Where the sun's rays canbot penetrate (iravi - sun, kadhir - ray, n^uzhaidhal - to enter/penetrate) thiruvallikkENi kaNdEnE - ************************* I was blessed to have His dharshan at thiruvallikkENi sri rukmiNi sametha sri pArththasArathi swamy thiruvadigaLE charaNam dhaasan Vijay Triplicane (Viji) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
