Guest guest
SRI: Dearest Sisters and Brothers, Today, the Full Moon day in the Month of Maasi, the Birthday of Chaithanya MahAprabhu. He had appeared in Bengal in 1486 AD and he lived only for 48 years. Renowned as a saint in his youth, he took to sanyas at the age of 24 leaving his wife who was only sixteen and his mother who was seventy years old. He taught on the Supremacy of krishNA. Although Chaitanya MahAprabhu approved of GrahasthAshram, he was quite strict with those in the renounced order. He banished once Junior HaridAsA for glancing lustfully at a young woman. There were many householders among his devotees and sishyas but what must be renounced is the propensity for material enjoyment. He wrote only eight verses called SikshAshtakA. Although he himself was a fully renounced saint, he taught how one can think and meditate on Lord KrishNa even within one’s home, occupation and social affairs. Even in front of RajagOpuram at Srirangam (near auto stand and the police station), one can see the Chaitanya MahAprabhu maNdapam where his footprints are housed. A Great BhAgawatOttamA. (he appeared in the lineage of MadhvAchArya) His verses were: 1. Glory to Krishna sankeerthan, that cleanses the heart of all dust accumulated over the years and extinguishes the fire of conditional life, of repeated births and deaths. It is the ocean of eternal bliss and enables us fully taste the amirtham (nectar) for which we are always awaiting. 2. Oh My Lord! Your name alone can render all mercy and grace to all beings. You have invested tremendous transcendental enrgies in Your names like KrishNA and GovindhA. Out of Your compassion and kindeness, You have given such an easy access for us to reach You with Your names. But, I am so unfortunate that I have no attraction for these names also. 3. One should chant the name of the Lord in a humble state of mind, thinking of oneself much lower than the straw in the street. One should be more tolerant than a tree, devoid of all senses of false prestige, ego and should be ready to offer all respect to other devotees. 4. Oh Lord, I have no desire for accumulation of wealth; no desire for Beautiful women; nor do I want any follower; I ONLY WANT TO BE YOUR SERVITOR FOR EVER. 5. Oh son of NandA, i am Your eternal servitor; yet due to my previous karmAs, I have fallen into the ocean of Birth and death diseases; Please save me from this and place me as one of the atoms (rENu- dust) of Your Lotus Feet. 6. Oh Lord, When will my eyes be filled and decorated with tears of love for You rolling down the cheeks constantly whenever I utter Your names? When will my voice choke up and the hairs on my body stand on their end at the mere uttering Your names? 7. Oh GovindhA! Feeling Your separation, I am considering a moment to be like 12 years or more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain, and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence. 8. I know no one but KRISHNA as my Lord, and He shall remain so even if He chooses to handle me roughly by His embrace or makes me broken-hearted by not being present before me. He is completely free to do anything and everything. He is MY LORD UNCODITIONALLY FOR EVER. (Sisters and Brothers , Remember Sri Sadagopan’s recent post on KulasEkharAzhwAr’s vitthuvakkOttammaan pAsurams- "VaaLaal aRutthuch chudinum marutthuvanpaal maaLaadha kaadhal nOyaaLan pOl" - same meanings; same anubhavam; same bhakti;) A Great bhAgawathA is Chaitanya MahAprabhu. As mentioned by NammAzhwAr, we all are servants of bhAgawathAs of KaNNan.
