Guest guest
saaRu = juice (example pazha saaRu = fruit juice). maRai is the Tamil equivalent of vEdam. amudhu means simply food (very ancient word), actually (sweetness, tasty are also implied). (Those who do not know Tamil try to derive it from Amrutham). saaRu + maRai = essense of the vedham = saaRRumaRai (slanged as saaththumurai). saaRu + amudhu = essense of food = saaRRamudhu (slanged as saathamdhu) In Tamil region today, almost every body other than SriVaishnavas use the Sanskrit word Rasam, while Kannada and Telugu region the word saaRu is the most common. adiyen Srinivasan K
