Guest guest
SrI: SrImate rAmAnujAya nama: ------- Appeal for Donations for Renovation Work ------- Sri Sarnga Pani Swami Temple, Kumbakonam Sri Sarngapani Swami Temple in the sacred city of Kumbakonam is one of the most ancient and premier temples of South India, ranked next only to Srirangam and Tirupati. As many as Seven Alvars have sung about the glory of the Lord of this temple. The Rajagopuram, of marvellous beauty and height, stands like an ornament in the heart of the town and was been built by a servant of this temple called Lakshminarayanaswami many centuries ago. The mighty wooden chariot of this temple is considered to be the gift of Tirumangai Alvar in the 8th century A.D. At a time when the 4000 Divya Prabandham of the Alvars were lost to mankind, the Lord of this temple, by preserving just ten verses on His praise, revived the entire Divya Prabandham and is hence adored as 'Dravida Sruti Darsaka' and 'Aravamuda Alvar'. The reclining Moolavar Deity is in a slighty lifted position, believed to be in response to the prayers of Tirumazhisai Alvar in the 3rd century A.D. The renovation work of this temple was started at the end of 1993 and only half the work has been done so far. In addition, the Devotees are greatly distressed over the fact that all festivals have been stopped during the past five years. The Renovation committee has determined to resume the work, perform the Samprokshanam by April '99, and revive all the festivals. This can be done only by the loving cooperation and liberal donations of the Devotee public. All Devotees are kindly requested to donate liberally for this sacred task and earn the grace and blessings of Lord Aravamudhan and Goddess Komalavalli. Donations are exempt from Income tax under rule 80G. ----------------------- Where to Send Donations ----------------------- INDIA: Member of the group in India may send their donations to: Cheques are payable to "The Secretary and Treasurer, Tiruppani committee", Sri L.Rajagopalan, MABT, Retd Pricipal, (Committee member) 12, Besant Road, KUMBAKONAM 612 001 UNITED STATES & CANADA: Checks should be made payable to "SMSA, Inc" Sri Vaishnava Seva Samithi c/o Smt.
