Guest guest
thoo nilA muRRam - part 13 - "nathi vaLam" Dear bAgawathAs, This holy city of kumbakonam is garlanded by thiru kAuveri on both sides as kauveri wanted to garlands Sri Amudhan. The river kauveri bifurcates west of kumbakonam and branch itself into two and comes around garlanding Sri Amudhan. When the original kauveri continues to go on the northern part of kumbakonam, the southern part known as dakshina kAuveri is in tamil known as "Ari sol ARu" or ArasalARu, named after "Hari" or Sri ArA amuthan HIMself. Some worthy references pasurams 4000 are such as "ponni maNi kozhikkum poong kudanthai" and kAveri karai kudanthai. There is a reason for this branching that is presented in Sri thulA kAuveri purAnam. It is also presented as follows. "kAuvEri chOLa boo mAthA mAlArttham chArngiNa: purAdavithA boothA kumbakOnAth pacchimAyAm muneechvara" 42 chapter BrahmAnda purANam on Sri Oppiliappan kOil or AkAsa nagari The ArasalARu should not be underestimated as well. This ArasalARu is also is kauveri. It is explained in the same chapter 46th slokam as "vahathE dhakshiNE yasya chArnginOhikavOrajA". This "theN kAuveri" is also very special and is addressed in 43rd slokam as "thathra yA dhakshiNa vahA sAbi pApaprNAsinee". There is a special reason that is explained about these river in Sri Oppiliappan thala purANam. Much more great details of this city and the kAuveri mahimai can also be read from several publications. Traditionaly thanjavur used to be the capital of chOzha kingdom. However, thiru kudanthai was also a capital for sometime during the earlier chOla regime. The great tanjore delta known as "chOzha nAdu sORu udaitthu" in tamil is expanded around this city. Look every where, it is all greenary and paddy fields. Many AzhwArs have lost themselves in the "iyaRkai vaLam" or the boundless natural beauty of this kshEthtam.
