It is customary that a student receives the blessings from his guru prior to starting his viddhai on his debute. It is also a great belief in Srivaishnavam that one prays to the thiruvadi of their AchAryA and grips such thiruvadi when they ascend to Srivaikundam. As per our AchArya guru pArampariyam, Sri Ramanujar prayed to Sri periya nambi's thiru vadi and Swami Desikan prayed to Sri AppuLLAr's thiru vadi at the time of their ascending to Sri vaikundam. Sri nammAzwAr desires that "thaLarA udalam ennathAvi sarinthu pOm pOthu iLaiyAthu unathu thAL orunga pidithhu pOtha isai neeyE" ----------- thiru vAy mozhi 5.8.8 ie., When my last breath is about to go out please bless me such that i hold your holy feet firmly and without any laxity and ascend to Srivaikundam. This alone is a proof to establish that Sri nammAzhwAr considered Sri ArA amuthan as his AchAryAL himself. Moreso, he confirms this one more time at the time when he enters Srivaikundam in the last but one pathigam of thiru vAymozhi as, "kudanthai en kOvalan kudi adiyArkkE" -- thiru vAy mozhi 10.9.7 ie., All the "welcoming" and "ubacchArams" by many enroute to Srivaikundam is all provided only to those who are the adiyArs of Sri ArA amuthan. He once again utters the name of our perumAL Sri ArA amuthan in the very last pathigam of thiru vAy mozhi as "Arap paruga enakku ArA amuthAnAyE"-- thiru vAy mozhi 10.10.5 "enakku ArA amuthAy enathu Aviyai"-- thiru vAy mozhi 10.10.6 As similar to any Srivaishnava who will only remember his AchAryAL's thiruvadi, SrinammAzwAr remembers only Sri ArA amuthan and HIS holy feet as he enters Srivaikundam. He cites this Lord Sri ArA amuthan "thrice" in his last 2 pathigams. Whatever extent and sweet words, he may have praised all the 35 Lords (he had delvered on 36 divya desams) Sri nammAzhwAr doesnot remember anyother of those Lords at the most crucial time when he enters Srivaikundam. He remembers only Sri ArA amuthan, who is his aRivu (ie., his knowledge the thiru vAy mozhi itself), his aRivin payan (the fruit of his knowledge, the mOksham), his holy AchAryAL, his perumAL and his everything thereafter, forever.... Guest guest
Sri Venkata Gurave Nama: Dear SriRengarajan, your posting on kudanthai about SriNammalwar 's Interest on Kudanthai Divya desam was really moving. I could not avoid myself to be overcome by Joy and extreme emotions. Well Not just Sri.Nammalwar, Even Kaliyan during his Famous First "Vadinen Vadi" 10 songs, He opens up his account only with with Sri.Aravamutha Alwan by starting "Suzh puanl kudanthahiye thozhuthu" even when he finishes his prapandam, he does not forget to mention this Aravamudhan .(Thirunendhatakam) "Kudanthai kidantha malai" may be he has taken cue from Sri.Nammalwar as to how to start and end a prapandam. thank you Adiyen K.M.Narayanan ------------------------------- The information transmitted is intended only for the person or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or privileged material.
