Guest guest
Tiruppavai - vEdamanaittukkum vittu. vEdas are always read with its upabruhmanas ("itihasa purAnAmbhyam vEdam samupabruhmayEt..") to interpret the right meaning of vEdas. itihAsAs and purAnAs are very important amongst them. ANdAl has not left them. She has brought the important meanings of itihAsAs and purAnAs in her tiruppavai. For a change from vEdanta, let us enjoy this today. 1. MahAbhAratam - SAnti parva - mOksha dharma 4.50 Esha brahma pravishtOsmi grIshmE SItamiva hradam SAmyAmi parinirvAmi sukham mAmEti kEvalam. Meaning - During hot summer we like to take a dip in pond of cold water to make us feel comfortable. Likewise, me, the jIvAtma, who is under the heat of tApatraya (AdhyAtmika etc)in this samsAra, would reach the brahmam, who is like a cool pond to take a dip in him. This would relieve us of the heat of this samsAra. On reaching the brahmam, I attain peace of mind, devoid of heat, enjoy total happiness without a trace of sorrow. ANdAl in her first verse, invites the gOpikAs (all of us ) to take a dip in the pond which is Lord Krishna the brahmam himself. "nIrAda pOduvIr". This is nothing but Krishna anubhava or krishna samSlesha. The same message is conveyed by Swamy Desika also in his sankalpa sUryodaya 6.83 2. MahAbhArata - Hari vamSam 113.62 "Esha nArAyana SrImAn kshIrArnava nikEtanaH nAgaparyanka utsrijya hi AgatO madhurAm purIm" SrImannArAyana - paravAsudEva who is with his nityAs and muktAs in Srivaikuntam, descended to kshIrabdhi to be visible to the eyes of dEvas like brahma, indra etc. He further abandoned his AdiSesha bed and came down to madhura to be visible to one and all. So the order in this sloka is Para (vaikunta)- vyUha (kshIrabdhi)- vibhava (krishna) ANdAl places her verses also in the same order. First verse - "nArAyananE" Second verse - "pArkadalul paiya turyindra paraman" and 3rd , 4th, and 5th verse - vibhavas namely trivikrama, rAma and krishna. She has even repeated the words of the sloka nArAyanaH, kshIrArnava nikEtanaH, madhuram purIm. We would continue with vedAntartha later.
