Dear bAgawathAs,

First layer of meaning:

Those leaves of the coconut trees that surround the Sriranga

kshEthram started to wave samAram in the winds with their

partners to celebrate the ursavam of Sri Arangan's vaibavam.

The gentle breeze that carries moist now carries the "thuNai" or

"seer" for the ursavam as a ubayak kArAr. Those mango trees on

the banks of thiru kauveri shakes their branches in the cross

winds that just touched the kauveri and brushes past them. While

doing so their branches and the leaves makes an "Osai" (*) in

their own bAshai to chant the holy manthirams of Sri Arangan.

On hearing and feeling all these those "magara kuzhAngaL" or

"meen kootttangaL" (array of fishes) swin in clomuns on their way

and reach this big and holy city of Sri ranga kshEthram to be

present during the ursavams as sEvArtthis.

 

The nityOrsavam these days are belived to be celebrated only on a

few days in the calendar year such as, chithrA pournami,

jyEstAbhishEkam, pathinettAm perukku (18th day of Adi), Sri

jayanthi (the star of appearance of Lord Sri KrishnA), DeepAvali,

thiruk kArtthigai deepam, sankaranthi and yugAthi. While these

are simple one day festivals, the mAsOrsavas and brahmOrsavAs

(three of them) last for more than a few days upto ten days. The

mAoRsavas usually celebrated in the evenings. The brahOrsavams

begin with dhvajArOhanam or the flag hoisting on the flagstaff

or dwajasthambam and ends with the rathOrsavam or car festival.
