Dear bAgawathAs, OyAmal adikkum thenRal unthan vAsam solla oyilAka selkinRa ARum unthan vAsam solla sAyAmal nimirntha puNNAi piNaikkum iyAlAl piranthu ninnai ninaikkum meaning: That gentle breeze which is constantly and always blowing in spring season keep praising your kasthuri vAsam. That kAuveri is now flowing in a gentle stream and is also telling constantly about your Sriranga vAsam. That "puNNai" tree which is never fallen and standing erect on the banks of Sri chandra pushkarani has really seen several generations of AchAryAs doing kAlakshEbam and have consolidated all their works for us. Essence of such works are always born again and again through many "kavis" in different words and keep us all reminded of you all the time. chitthirai (contd..) Viruppan thiru nAl (contd..) >From the second day onwards perumAL will be going on a procession around the chithra veedhi. The vAhanAs keep chnaging on these days. On 4th day garuda vAhanam and on 8th day horse vAhanam are deployed. On the 9th day when rEvathi nakshatthiram ascends, the Lord goes in chariot on the chitthrai veethi. On the tenth day the thirumanchanam is performed in the mandapam and the Lord will again march on procession around the chithrai veedhi. Each puRappAdu is stopped in designated places for ubayakArALs to do mariyAdhai and ubhayam or honours and offerings are made. On 10th day after the procession Lord stays in 1000 pillared mandapam for a while and proceed to udayavar sannithi. During this instant the gOshti chant Sri rAmAnuja nooRRanthAthi. Sri rAmAnujA is brought in "kai thala sEvai" (carried on the right palm) and "iLA neer" or milk of tender coconut is offered to perumAL. On HIS return from HIS most ardent shishyAL, Lord Sri namperumAL stays near the dvajasthambam where the "padippu" or "thiruppani mAlai" is recited. The "thiruppani mAlai" is in tamil and gives account of various festivals of the temple. It is said that this is attributed to Sri Ramanuja and that it is often recited at the end of every festival marking a touching scene. Though the chithrai brhamOrsavam ends on 10th day, On the evening of 11th day Lord is taken in a specially decorated palanquin or "pallakku" procession again around the chitthrai veedhi. VaikAsi: vasantha Ursavam: This ursavam commences 8 days prior to pournami or full moon day. PerumAL and nAcchiyArs arrive in the vasantha mandapam in the centre of the tank. Turmeric paste or "machaL kAppu" is offered marking the commencement of the most pleasant season of all. Prayers and prasAdhams follow this. During churnabishEkam or applying the turmeric paste "thirup pallAndu" is recited. "kOlattam" used to be performed at the southern mandapa during this ursavam and perumAl and nacchiyArs will return to the garbagruham after this "thiru mancha kAppu" ceremony. But this practice of kOlAttam was abolished. From the 2nd day to 6th day perumAL comes to vasantha mandapam alone and simpler ceremonies are performed. On the 7th day, namperumAL and nAcchiyArs go to the mandapam together as similar to 1st day. This is the practice almost for most of all the mahA uthsavams that perumAL and ubaya nAcchiyArs go together on the 1st and 7th days. On the 9th day ie on pournami day the Lord is offerred manchaL kAppu at HIS abode itself and HE goes around the chithira veedhi. On HIS way back namperumAL visits vasantha mandapam and conclude the Sri vasantha uthsavam. "kedAkkuli thiru nAL" is celebrated for thAyAr in HER shrine for 7 days in a small tank behind thAyAr sannithi.
