Guest guest
Dear Srivaishnava perunthagaiyeer Usually the month odf maargazhi is said as peedai maatham (inauspicious) and marriages etc are not performed in this month. But I learnt from a tamil professor that it is not peedai maatham but "peeta maatham". The peetam in samskrit means a seat, a pedestal. This means even though other months are also good months, this month is on a higher peetam- elevated status. In the Srimadh Bhagavath geetha also Bhagavaan claims "maasanaam margaseershoham'. Then it can not be "peedai maatham", but peeta maatham. Why we do not perform marriages in this month? Is the next question. Because if we think only of materials wealth, marriage, family, etc, when is it that, we are going to think about the Lord. So this month is totally allotted for devotion, without sparing time for materialistic aspects. Does these reasons appeal in simple terms. Bhagavathas can offer their comment please.
