Guest guest
Our scriptures assert that Sriman Narayana is the cause of all worlds and he is all powerful. Then why do the various stotras and writings including Prabandham praise him for vanquishing His enemies? That is really no achievement for Him. Can kindly enlighten me? Please pardon me for asking this question which may appear silly to most of you. Guest guest
Sri: Srimathe Gopaladesika Mahadesikaya Namah: Dear Sri Balasundaram, You asked: Our scriptures assert that Sriman Narayana is the cause of all worlds and he is all powerful. Then why do the various stotras and writings including Prabandham praise him for vanquishing His enemies? That is really no achievement for Him. Can kindly enlighten me? That is nice loaded question. This reminds me of Sri Velukkudi Krishnan's Vishnu sahasranamam upanyasam, wherein he describes very beautifully Sri Rama avataar. Sri Rama fought with rAvaNA, whose strength sent shivers through everyone on the earth as well Deva lOkam. RAvaNan was extremely strong, and the fight was quite terrific in the battle field. One can compare this yuddham between Rama and rAvaNan to only that. It is incomparable to any other. Such great battle, and Rama sent rain of arrows to let all head simply fall down on the earth to emerge victorious. One can imagine the valour of Rama with this backgorund. Now look at Sri ANDAL's Thiruppaavai, "pollaa arakkanaik kiLLi kaLaindhaanai.." He simply plucked the head of the rAkshasan (rAvaNan) effortlessly, and she doe not elaborate any further. Why? Sage Valmiki describes so greatly about the battle and AndAL briefly mentions about it, in three or four words, as a passing statement. Sri Velukkudi Krishnan describes very touchingly and beautifully: The Queen and the King walk through the beautiful gardens, during their evening stroll, and the king while talking sweet nothings to the queen, and spending a joyful time, he also plucks a nearby leaf from a plant and throws it on the ground. Will the Queen immediately call for a press conference and announce that Raja has successfully plucked a leaf from the plant and thrown it on the ground..? That will be silly. That is how BhUmi PiraaTTi (AndAL) considered the valour with which Rama killed rAvaNan; As far as She is concerned, this is nothing for Rama. For us, (the ants on the ground,), Raja's plucking leaf and throwing is great... Hence, we praise- we talk a great lot about His acts of killing demons and asurAs. That is His achievement, as you rightly said. It is OUR BHAGYAM and fortune that such acts of His give us an opportunity to praise Him.. It is not that mentioning of such events /acts please Him; It is our getting excited in praising and in mentioning of such acts please Him. Just adiyEn's yet another rambling for giving me an opportunity to praise Him.
