Crossing the Seas - Why not ?

Dear Bhagavathaas,

This is a doubt that has been in my mind for a long time. I have

heard people saying that, if we cross the oceans/seas we are subjected

to some kind of "Theetu" or Dhosham and if we go back to India, we

should go to Rameswaram or someplace like that, bathe in the waters

before undertaking any pilgrimage. I would be extremely grateful if

this doubt is cleared. If any of you would feel that this doubt is

baseless and there is no such thing, kindly let me know.
