Sri Rangapriya Swami is one the most respected spiritual teachers of the Vedic tradition in South India. He is renowned for his absolute purity of heart and conduct. He is famous for being incomparably approachable to those who come for advice, looking at all with an equally compassionate eye. On top of all this, Sri Swami is also a well-known Sanskrit scholar who is much-sought after as a speaker by both the religious and academic communities. Sri Swami has graciously agreed to give a talk on Sunday, September 17, at 8:30 AM PDT / 11:30 AM EDT. The talk will last for about 1 hour, followed by 15 minutes of open Questions and Answers. Note: This talk is aimed primarily toward mature teenagers and young adults who are interested in some religious thinking. Sri Rangapriya Swami will therefore be communicating in English. He is an excellent speaker who is immense proven ability to reach out to youth. In his poorvaashrama, Sri Swami was a Sanskrit professor for many years in Bangalore, and many (including several members of this list) have benefitted from his compassion. The topic for the first discourse is ``Narayana as a Universal Idea of God''. The talk will introduce the concept of God as expressed by the name "Narayana" and how it is an idea of universal applicability. Suggested topics for future discourses include the following: 1) The meaning of "dharma" and its applicability to everyday life, whether in India or the West 2) The nature of suffering and how to alleviate it 3) What it means to "love" God, and how it can be cultivated and applied to everyday life 4) Compassion as a supreme virtue in God and humanity -- examples from our mythology 5) The goal of life according to Vedanta We recommend that parents with children listen together to this discourse. We plan a Question and Answer session for 15 minutes at the end, intended for youth to have any and all questions answered. If there are any questions left unanswered due to lack of time, we intend on collecting them so that Sri Swami can address them at the beginning of the subsequent discourse. To cover the cost of tele-conferencing for the upanyasam, we are suggesting a contribution of $8 per family for this discourse. This amount will cover our cost of the tele-conference. Particpants will be responsible for the normal long-distance charges to the tele-conference number based in the U.S. Payments and registration can be made on-line with a credit card (prefered method) at http://www.ramanuja.org/svss/lectures.html . The system is foolproof and secure. If you prefer to pay by check, please send an email requesting tele-conference details to rangapriya, and mail your check payable to "SMSA, Inc." to the following address: SVSS c/o Nagu Satyan 7821 W.Alder Drive Littleton, CO 80128-5522 If there are questions, please contact myself (mani) or Smt.
