Guest guest
Dear Sri RR, One of the long felt needs in our Sri Vaishnava community is for an institutional effort to organize the availability of vAdyArs (priests). Not many of us take to this profession these days, and hence there are not many available. Mea culpa. I acknowledge my personal fault here. However, within the limited availability an organized functioning will be very helpful. The current system where each family has their own priest(s) - like family physicians - has been working well so far but seems to be not enough, of late. Since you are closely associated with the Ashramams and matams, I request you to explore some alternatives for this situation, in whatever way it is feasible. One place to start is to institutionalize a group operating out of local Sri Vaishnava temples. There are some already, but this is not common. If the achAryAs can advice all the priests / vaideekAs to register themselves with their local temples and service their local community aside from their regular patrons, I am sure there will be a good response. I am aware of many Sri Vaishnavite families who do not find it easy to have the priests come to their homes (on time) due to economic and schedule reasons. Over a period these families simply stop bothering and therein starts the shift away from Sri Vaishnavam. Thanks, Sriram
