Adiyen was in such a situation last night, unable to perform sAyamsandhyA. In keeping with the suggestion by Sri. Vijayaraghavan (vide Sri. Navalpakkam Swami), I did the following today morning: (1) After first Achamanam and praNAyAmam, sankalpam as: "Sri bhagwadAjnyayA, Sriman nArAyaNa prIthyartham, pUrvedyu: sAyam sandhyAm upAsishye". (2) During argyupradAnam, after first 3 argyu:s and prANAyama: "Sri bhagwadAjnyayA, Sriman nArAyaNa prIthyartham, sAyam sandhyA kAlAtItadosha prAyaschitArtham, turiya argyupradAnam karishye". [one additional argyu:] And (I wasn't sure about this, so will appreciate any comments) I completed sAyamsandhyA facing westward, although the sun was rising in the opposite direction in the morning...!! When you are doing the previous day's sayam sandhya in the morning, you can face north and do it. The arghyam should always be oferred facing the sun. Also in all the samkalpams (for arghya pradAnam, Gayatri japam etc.,) it won't hurt to add poorvEdyu:) just like you do with the pradhAna samkalpam. May God bless your sincere efforts. Thanks.
