Dear SrI Bala Sundaram,

>What role can jyothisa can have in a SriVaishnava's life?

No role except for ascertaining the proper time-period for

doing various nithya-naimiththika-vaidika-karmas.

>Should it guide him in his daily decisions?

No. As SrIman NArAyaNa himself is there to guide in the material

world as well as in the archirAdi-gathi, a SrI VaishNava should

not consider anything otherthan the lotus feet of SrIman NArAyaNa

as his guide.

>Should he look for auspicious times as per jyotisha shastra

>in performing his worldly and spiritual duties?

Yes. Instead of calling this as "auspicious times", I call it

as proper time. The SAstra-vidhi has to be followed without

fail with SAtvika-tyAga as the SAstra-vidhi is the form of

SrIman NArAyaNa's divya-AagnyA (order). As per the SAstra,

each and every nitya-naimithika karma has a prescribed time

(proper time) in which it has to be done. Therefore, to ascertain

this time, the jYothisha SAshtra has to be consulted. The

jYothisha SAstra has surely prAmANyam and I do not underestimate

it. But using it against SAtivika-nivruthi-dharma is not

warranted for SrI VaishNavas.

>Should be concerned about the effects of

>gochara(movement of planets)?

>I heard a view(not from a SrVaishnava) that all

>planets are in the body od

>Sriman Narayana and hence individual attention to

>he planets is not necessary. Is this correct?

Not only the nava-grahas, but all the chit and achit tatvas are

the body of SrIman NArAyaNa. "sarvam vyApya nArAyaNassthitha:".

A SrI VaishNava how had adopted bhara-nyAsam (SAraNAgathi-prapathti)

should not worry for his future. BhagavAn has said

"yOga-kshEmam vahAmyaham", "mA Sucha:", "abhayam dadAmi" and

therefore, a prapanna need not worry for anything. SrIVaishNava need not

be concerned about the effect of gOchAra because BhagavAn has

taken full responsibility to protect the prapanna-SrI VaishNava.

In this context, I refer the kAmAsikAshtakam by SwAmy SrIman NigamAntha

mahA DESika where the greatest AachArya says :

"tvayi rakshathi rakshakai: kimanyai:

tvayi chArakshathi rakshakai: kimanyai: |

ithit niSchitha dhI: SrayAmi nithyam

nruharE vEgavathI-thatASrayam tvAm ||

Also, Tiru-vAi-mOzhi of SrImath SatakOpa swAmy "emma vIdu",

"Ondrum DEvum", "ThiNNan vIdu", "ulagam uNda peruvAya".

Thanks & Regards

M.S.HARI RAmAnuja DAsan.
