There were a couple of omissions in the list, one being the Tirunakshatram of Sri Kotikanyaka dhanam Laksmikumara Thathadesikan about whom an article sent by Sri Kannan Damal Pathangi <kannandp and was published in Sri RangaSri on 26th November 2000. Many thanks to Sri Kannan Damal Pathangi for bringing this to our notice. The other one relates to Sri TirukkaLLam Swami whose Tirunakshatram falls on 14th December 2000 (Kartigai Pushyam). The Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Committee of TirukkaLLam Swami has sent the following appeal. We request you kindly to contribute liberally for the success of the celebrations. You may send your remittances through SVSS to claim tax exemption. By copy of this, I am requesting SVSS to kindly arrange to collect and remit the proceeds to the Committee’s address given in the appeal. Dasoham Anbil Ramaswamy ====================================================================== Appeal from Sri Tirukallam Swami Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Committee ====================================================================== (1) Sri R. Seshadri “Garuda Sailam, No. 96, St. Mary’s Road, Chennai 600 018, Tamilnadu, INDIA (Chennai Phone: 432 1051) (2) Sri K. Devanathan No. 4 P&T Colony, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, 500 080, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA (Hyderabad Phone: 753 1517) ====================================================================== Sara Sarajna Sri Ubha.Ve. Tirukallam Narasimha Raghavacharya Swami, popularly known as “Tirukallam Swami”, was a distinguished exponent of Visishtadvaita School of thought. An illustrious disciple of Sri Ahobila muth, Sri Tirukallam Swami was truly blessed by His Holiness the 42nd Jeeyar under whose feet, he had the benefit of acquiring deep knowledge in Vedas, Sastras and Sampradaya Granthas, in the traditional Kalakshepam style. His erudition earned for him accolade from all sides and he was sought after by keen aspirants seeking guidance to reach spiritual sublimation by comprehending the tenets of the Srivaishnava Sampradaya. His exposition and exemplary life endeared him to one and all. Within a short span of life – his earthly existence was brief – his contribution to Srivaishnavam is very significant and enduring. H.H. the 42nd Azhagiyasinghar, in recognition of his noteworthy contributions conferred on him the title of ”Sara Sarjna” and was made the “Aasthana Vidwan” of Ahobila muth. His service as the Joint Editor of Sri Nrisimhapriya was remarkable. “Help ever, Hurt never” – Sri Tirukallam Swami upheld this motto throughout his life and was compassionate to one and all irrespective of their status in life and level of knowledge. This kinship brought everyone close to him with respect and admiration. Those who have drawn spiritual guidance and religious instruction from him cherish his memory with gratitude and reverence. Tirukallam Swami identified Sri Bhagawat Gita as a unique masterpiece and made it the central piece in all his expositions of Visishtadvaita philosophy. Guided and inspired by Sri Bhuthamkottam Swami in the study of Bhagawat Gita, Tirukallam Swami lived in that style, completely renouncing the material aspects of life. It is, therefore, appropriate that the 75th Tirunakshatram (Platinum Jubilee) falling on 14th December 2000 is celebrated in a grand manner as a fitting tribute to this great soul. In the manner of “Gurum Prakasayeth Deeman” and true to the saying “potri ugappadum pundhiyil kolvathum” an opportunity presents before us to express our gratitude to this noble and selfless person. “Sri Tirukallam Swami Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Committee” has thus been formed with the blessings of the present 45th Jeeyar of Sri Ahobila Muth, under the benign Chairmanship of Veda Vidwan Sri Ubha. Ve. Mukkur Lakshminarasimhacharya Swami. The following projects have been drawn up for implementation: 1. Renovation of one of the nine shrines in Ahobilam – a Herculean task undertaken by our beloved 45th Jeeyar and progressing by his grace. 2. Award of scholarships to deserving students in Madurantakam Patasala started by the 42nd Jeeyar and in which Tirukallam Swami was one among the first batch of scholars. 3. Popularizing his writings by republishing his works as well as release of recorded cassettes of his discourses available with some of his ardent devotees. 4. Performance of Gita Yagna. 5. Holding of a Bhagawat Gita Sadas. 6. Publication of a commemorative volume. The tentative cost to carry out the above programmes is estimated at Rupees Ten Lakhs. We are sure that you would like to participate in full measure to realize this genuine desire and devote generously your time and resources. Kindly respond to either of the above addresses. Celebrations Committee. ====================================================================== NOTE: Bhagavatas will remember our announcement that we will soon be starting a separate section in “Sri Ranga Sri” called “GitAmrutham” As a humble token of our regard and respect for this great mahAn, we will commence this series based on his writings from 14th December 2000 (On his Platinum Jubilee Tirunakshatram day).
