Dear Bhagavathas,

 

The Unjal Sevai and koodarai vellum seer sattumurai held on the first day

of Thai masam has a special attraction for me which i used to attend

regularly before (as our family has a part in the kainkaryam) and I had

the opportunity this year after a long time

 

After the Manavala Mamunigal Mangalasasanam,Sri Andal comes to the

Chintamani chettiar mandapam on the outer big prakaram for the Unjal

Sevai.Sri Andal is in the Chettichi Thirukkolam.It is close to midnight by

the time thiruvaradhanam starts which continues for around 20 minutes.The

Unjal is a big one with exqusite woodwork on the top ,and is swung

slightly as the sevai starts with Vedappiraan BhaTTar Swami's

samarpanam.Vedappiraan BhaTTar comes forward and

gets the parivattam and Maalai from BhaTTar and sings for around 5

minutes.Next is turn of Sadagopa Nambi.Sadagopa Nambi after getting the

parivattam and Maalai sings the OOnjal paTTu in a melodius and a sublime

tone.This oonjal pattu has references to Sri Andal's birth and Her

Leelai's and i was told by one Bhagavatha that some of the verses are

similar as that for Ranganayaki Thayar Srirangam.

 

After this Sadagopa Nambi chants out short one line sentences

which describe the vaibhavam of Thayar and perumal.All this is over in

about 15 minutes.Next is the turn of Tiruvaranga perumal Arayer.Arayer

Swamigal after getting Parivattam and Maalai sings a nice composition

on Thayar for around 10 minutes,follows up with Thayar and Perumal

Vaibhavam in Short lines and ends up with Vaazhi Mangalam.

 

Periya Nambigal Swami then comes forward and after the Mariyadai

calls out the Bhagavathas who have to contribute for the Unjal Utsavam

for this Varusham,starting from the Theerthakarars. Periya Nambigal Swami

reads out how much each Theerthakarar has to contribute and the

Theerthakaras come forward one by one as they are called and give their

contribution into the hands of the BhaTTar who puts it into the thambalam

After the Theethakarars all other Bhagavathas come forward and make their

contribution.Next Periya Nambi swami distributes 'Nel Kathir' to all

the devotees.Then prasadam is given,followed by theertham and saTari.This

ends the proceedings at the chintamani chettaiar mandapam.Now Thayar will

go to the garbha graham.

 

After about an hour the thiruvaradhanam starts at the garbha

graham.After this the koodarai vellum seer sattumurai is held.

Afterwards prasadam is given-: sakkarapongal and akkaravadisil.

Perumal gives darsanam with Ubhaya Nachimmars.Andal ,Mannar and

Garudazhwar are on the left and all Azhwars are on the (side) extreme

left.This concludes around 2:30 am.This will be followed by Irapatthu

Utsavam.
