Guest guest
Srimate SrivanSatakopa Sri Vedanta Desika Yatindra Mahadesikaya Nama: Bhagawatapacharam ______________________________ Today’s “The Hindu” carries a report datelined Srirangam, which, if true, ought to make the blood of every true Sri Vaishnavite boil in anger or curdle in sorrow , at the temerity of the powers that be , which dare to interfere with impunity in the affairs of temples, to the extent of trying to tamper with the holiest of holies, the Moolamurthy of Sri Ranganatha Himself. Everyone is aware that Sri Ranganatha sports the image of Sri Piratti and Srivatsam on his vakshastalam. During the ongoing renovation work at the sannidhi, the stapatis are reported to have removed the embossed images of Sri Mahalakshmi and Srivatsam from Periya Perumal’s thirumarbu and replaced them with a tantric triangle symbol. It is further reported that this sacrilege has been committed with the approval of two representatives of the Temple Committee. With the samprokshanam scheduled for 15th March, the devout have appealed to the Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi, to restore status quo ante. However, knowing as one does the unsympathetic attitude of the atheist CM, one wonders whether anything constructive would at all be done in the matter.Had Sri Tondaradippodi Azhwar been with us , he would definitely have put into practice, with suitable changes, his prescription “Veruppodu samanar mundar vidhiyil sAkkiyargal-ninpAl porupparianagal pEsil pOvathe nOyadAgi-kurippenakkidayumAgil koodumEl thalayai AngE –aruppadE karumam kandai arangamAnagaruLAnE”. Adiyen would call upon all SriVaishnavites to rise in protest to prevent this avaidik ,Agama-viruddha akramam being perpetrated in SriRangam , of all places. Had the report appeared in any other daily pandering to sensationalism, we might tend to ignore it :but “The Hindu”is a conservative newspaper with a high degree of credibility.Adiyen would request SriVaishnavas, specially those at SriRangam or Trichy, to ascertain the truth of the matter and to organize such action as may be suitable to prevent this sacrilege. –dasan, sadagopan. Guest guest
This is not just a matter of concern for Sri Vaishnavas but for every one. In today's political context, Karunanidhi cannot be callous. If proper awareness is created, how will BJP, his ally protect its votebank ? We will have support of many political parties and personalities like Rajani Kanth, if we take a concerted effort. We have the right to raise it in international forums also. It is like sacrilege of Buddha statues. We should also make sure that the concerned authorities are thrown out for doing such an atrocity even if they are close to the ruling party. If official action is not possible, then mercenary option should also be considered. We have been patient for enough time. All the temples have been looted enough and now even the Lord is being sacrileged. Rajaram
Guest guest
Dear brothers, (I leave sisters out because they just don't seem as quick to "show anger on behalf of the Lord".) "We have been patient for enough time. All the temples have been looted, and now.." Statements such as this worry me. I once told a dear African American friend that constantly remembering 200 years of hurt prevents one from reacting sensibly to a single affront. If the neighbor throws garbage into one's yard, the person fumes "200 years of lashes, and NOW THIS!!! I'M NOT TAKING IT ANYMORE!!!" and the reaction is completely incomprehensible to the rest of society. So, let us reduce our reaction to only this one issue. Yes, if it's true, it's very very shocking. But first one would have to ascertain the facts. If true, there is no question that the situation has to be corrected and steps taken to make sure such a thing never happens again. But how we accomplish this is I think just as important. Unfortunately, we can't simply say "WWRD". If we say "What Would Rama do?", some might start practising archery. Or train a monkey-army, which is what bringing in political parties might be tantamount to doing... Before this becomes a train that not only gathers speed but also a lot of noise and hot air as it goes along, I wanted to plead for a little patience, calm good sense and quiet (but unshakable) strength in our response on behalf of our Lord.
