Guest guest
Srimate SrivanSatakopa Sri Vedanta Desika Yatindra Mahadesikaya Nama: TeliyAtha Marai NilangaL TeligindrOmE-4 The second prasna of the TaittiriyOpanishad (popularly called the MahA NarAyanOpanishad) is an elaboration of the ananta kalyAna gunas of the ParamAtmA, earlier defined in the Bhriguvalli and Anandavalli. It is indeed majestic in style and content, and its swaras are set by the veda purusha in a lilting mode, making it a pleasure to recite and hear this beautiful upanishad. Defining the abodes of Sriman Narayana, the Upanishad , in a grand beginning, says “ambhasyapArE bhuvanasya madhyE nAkasya prishtte mahatO maheeyAn” Ambhasi apArE- The endless waters of the ocean are the favourite haunt of the Paramapurusha. The first and foremost of the avatArAs, the MatsyAvatAra, was enacted in the ocean. At the time of PralayA, Sri Narayana reclines as an infant on a small banyan leaf in the swirling waters. Sri VarAhAvatArA saw the Lord diving to the bottom of the ocean to reclaim BhoomipirAtti. And for good measure, in the KoormAvatArA too Emperuman stood steady as a rock, in the form of a giant turtle ,with his feet firmly planted in the ocean bed, bearing the Mantara parvatam on his broad back, to enable DevAs to obtain nectar. It would thus appear that the ocean is indeed the home of the para vastu. Tiruvaimozhi has innumerable references to Emperuman’s residence in the ocean- “kadal aazhi neer thotri adanuLLE kaN vaLarum adalAzhi ammAn” “tAnOr peru neer tannuLLE tOtri adanuL kaN vaLarum vAnor perumAn” “aazha nedum kadal sErndAn” “nimir tirai neeL kadalAnE” “neer torum paranduLan” etc, etc. « Bhuvanasya MadhyE »-The Antariksham or the great Universe (or ,according to some, the Soorya Mandalam) is also the abode of SrimanNarayana. Azhwar describes this thus- “vAnatthum vAnatthuL umbarum maNNuLLum maNNin keezh tAnatthum endisaiyum tavirAthu nindrAn “ “paranda andam idena nila visumbu ozhivara , karanda sil idamtorum idam tigazh porul torum karandu engum parandulan” “nilanidai visumbidai uruvinan aruvinan” « Nakasya prishttE » « Nakam » here denotes the suddha satva maya nitya vibhooti, viz, Sri Vaikuntam. This is ParamAtmA’s permanent address, so to say,and is ununtouched by rajas and tamas. It is this wonderful world that every mumukshu aspires for, where there is only unalloyed bliss of eternal service to the Lord and His consort. Many are the references in Tiruvaimozhi to Emperuman’s vaikunta vAsitvam- “VaikunthA ManivannanE” “vaikuntha nAthan en valvinai mAiyndara sei kundan” “vaikuntan tamar emar” “viNNai thozhuthu avan mEvu vaikuntham ennu kai kAttum” etc. “viN meedu iruppAi malaimEl nirpAi kadal sErppAi maN meedu uzhalvAi ivatruL engum maraindu uraivAi en meedu iyandra pura andatthAi « - is this not a verbatim reproduction, in clear Tamil,of « ambhasya pare ,bhuvanasya madhye, nakasya prishtte » ? The more we delve into the Dravida veda sagaram, the more we find such veda ratnAs. To be continued-dasan,sadagopan.
