Guest guest
Srimate SrivanSatakopa Sri Vedanta Desika Yatindra Maha Desikaya Nama: TeliyAtha Marai NilamgaL TeligindrOmE-8 The second half of the third mantra of MahaNarayanOpanishad , »yam antassamudrE kavayO vayanti “,describes how sages realize the Paramatma ,who resides in the primordial waters (or in their hearts, according to another interpretation). Tiruvaimozhi is full of references to this special residence of the Paramapurusha . “tAnOr peruneer tannuLLE tOtri adanul kaN vaLarum vAnOr perumAn » “ammAn aazhippirAn”, “pArkadaluL paLLi payindraduvum”etc. The concluding part of this mantra deals with how all beings abide in the imperishable and peerless Paramatma-“yat aksharE paramE prajA:”The relevant pasurams from Tiruvaimozhi have already been cited in previous postings. The fourth mantra reiterates the Causal attributes of Brahman. The source of all living and non-living beings is primordial matter or Moola Prakruthi. This Moola Prakruthi in turn owes its origins to the Paramatma. Emperuman, at the time of Creation, through the Moola prakruthi , and with the aid of water (and the other four of the five basic elements, viz.,agni, vayu, bhoomi and akasa) , gives form and name to a host of sentient and non-sentient beings, including human beings, animals and all sorts of flora and fauna.. Having created these diverse beings, He, in his infinite mercy and soulabhya, enters them as their antaryAmi and inner dweller. Here is this beautiful mantra- “yeta: prasootA jagata: prasooti, tOyEna jeevan vyasasarja bhoomyAm\\ yet oshadheebhi: purushAn pasoomscha vivEsa bhootAni charAcharANi” Here again, we come across a Tiruvaimozhi pasuram., which is a verbatim translation- “Matrilam araN vAn perum pAzh tani mudalA Mutrum neer padaitthu adan vazhi tonmuni mudalA Mutrum dEvarOdu ulagu seivAn TirumOgur Chutri nAm valam seyya nam tuyar kedum kadithE » Let us get the purport of this endearing tribute to TirumOgur KALamEga PerumAl ,in the words of Sri Nanjeer- “paricchEdikka oNNAda padi periadAi, oppindrikkE irukkindra prakruthiyai kAraNamAga kondu, aavaraNa jalatthai padaitthu, avvazhiyAlE Brahma mudalAna dEvargalOdu koodiya ella lOkatthaiyum uNdAkkinavan”. The predominance of such Tiruvaimozhi pasurams, which reflect the Sruthi not only in spirit but in letter too, makes one marvel at Sri Nammazhwar’s all-encompassing knowledge. This “mathinalam” is made the more wonderful by the fact that the Azhwar was not exposed to even a semblance of veda adhyayanam.. “Guru mukham anadheetya praha vedan asEshAn” would apply equally well to Sri Nammazhwar. The real beneficiaries of Emperuman’s act of bestowing the Azhwar with blemishless gnAnA, are indeed ourselves ,who are able to determine, with the aid of Azhwar’s sreesooktis, the true purport of the Sruti, in all its inscrutable majesty. -to be continued. dasan, sadagopan.
