Guest guest
Dear Sri vaishnava perunthagaiyeer, In the previous post, the importance given out in the verse was the pleading to the supreme lord Raamaa by the aachaarya viraadhan on behalf of all people like us. It is also suggested to the Lord that by giving moksham to all he is not going to be the loser. Now let us have the next verse. Annam aai aru maRaigaL aRainthaai nee, avai unnai Munnam aar Odhuviththaar, ellaarum mudinthaarO, Pinnam aai onRu aadhal pirinthEyO? PiriyaadhO? Enna maa maayam ivai Enam aai maN idhanthaai! Word by word meaning for few words: Annam - swan- hamsa in samskrit Aai- aagi- done, taken Enam - varaaham- boar Idanthaai- lifted up ARainthaai- pagarnthaai- upadhEsiththaai- taught Odhuviththaar- solla sollik koduththaar- taught how to recite Meaning: Oh supreme lord raamaa! You, once in the earlier period, took the avathaaram of boar and lifted this world from the paathaala lOkam [under-water world]. At another time, you as hamsam taught the four vEdhaas to brahma, dhEvaas and others. When you taught others, I have a doubt, who taught you all these vEdhaas? Those who taught you, have they all died? In this world, you are appearing as one "from within" in subjects and objects. At the same time you are also appearing as "from without". What is that wonder? How is that you are able to be within and without at the same time. Points: 1. Again in this verse viraadhan tells us raamaa is the sarvagnan- one who knows everything. Oh lord! You know all the vEdhaas without the need that some body has to teach you. Nothing is unknown to you. 2. Please refer "uNarnthaai maRai naankum Odhinaai needhi, maNanthaai malar magaL thOL maalE" - 48 irandaam thiruvanthaadhi - you realised the vEdhaas and then taught 4 vEdhaas, also dharma saasthram, you won the shoulders of the flower born lady. Please note the emphatic word used here- uNarnthaai- he just felt- not learnt. So it was contained within- was running within- at the appropriate time the lord poured out from within. 3. Please refer periyazhvar verse 4-9-5 aamaiyaai gangaiyaai aazh kadalaai avaniyaai aruvaraigaLaai naanmuganai naanmaRaiyaai vELviyaai thakkaNaiyai thaanum aanaan Again please note here nan maRaiyaai aanaan- very emphatically aanaan- he became the vEdhaas- in bhagavath geethaa also Lord krishna says "I am the rk yajus saama vedhaas". 4. The srivaishnava philosophy is well talked about in this verse- The antharyaamithvam and parathvam at the same time. "onRu aadhal pirinthEyO? PiriyaadhO?" 5. See the words again "enna mamaayam"- please recall few of the addressing style of aaNdaaL - yaSodhai Ilam singam, naaRayaNan, kaNNaa, gOvindhaa, maamaayan maadhvan vaikunthan etc. so maamaayam is repeated here from kamban. 6. Few references from 4000 prabhandham for this annam aai and Enam aai. Thunniya pEriruL soozhnthu ulagai mooda manniya naanmaRai muRRum maRainthida pinnam iv vulaginil pEriruL neenga anRu annam adhu aananE -- 1-8-10 periyaazhvaar Enaththuru aagiya eesan enthai idavan ezha vaangi eduththa 3-5-3 periyazhvaar thirumozhi MaNNidanthu Enamaagi maavali tholaippaan -- 4-6-2 thirumangai aazhvaar periya thirumozhi Thunni maNNum viNNadum thOnRaadhu iruLaai moodiya naaL annamaagi arumaRaigaL aruLichcheidha amalanidam - 5-1-9 thirumangai aazhvaar periya thirumozhi MunnulagangaL Ezhum iruL maNdi uNNa mudhalOdu veedum aRiyadhu Ennidhu vandhadhu enna imaiyOr thigaippa ezhil vEdham inRi maRaiya Pinnum vaanavarkkum munivarkkum nalgi iruL theernthu ivvaiyagam magizha Annamadhaayirunthu angu aRanool uraiththa nammai aaLum arasE - 11-4-8 thirumangai aazhvaar periya thirumozhi 7. Why he took the Enam roopam- this is put across very nicely Enaththin uruvaagi nilamangai ezhil koNdaan vaanaththil avar muRaiyaal magizhnthu Eththi valangoLLa 2-6-3 thirumangai aazhvaar periya thirumozhi He did take the boar roopam to enjoy the beauty of the earth- nilamangaiyin ezhil koNdaan- or is it that she got the beauty because he lifted as Enam - the other dhEvaas have started receiving both with all the aanandham - magizhnthu says aazhvaar. [Also enjoy the naaraayaNeeyam for this boar episode which are really captivating for the beauty of lyrics]. 8. In the vishNu sahasranaamam also the naamam 193 is hamsaaya nama:- that lord who came as a swan. Before we conclude this post the last verse of viraadha sthuthi of the lord- Oppu iRaiyum peRal ariya oruvaa mun uvanthu uraiyum Appu uRaiyuL thuRanthu adiyEn arunthavaththaal aNugudhalaal Ip piRavik kadal kadanthEn inip piRavEn iru vinaiyum Thuppu uRazhum neerththa sudar thiruvadiyaal thudaiththaai nee!
