Guest guest
Dear Bhagavathas: I have been reading the postings on "anthima smruthi" and I would like to share my humble opinion on this. I think our Alwars and Acharyas desire and pray for anthima smruthi not because they are afraid they will be punished without it. Sri Vedantha Desika prays for the vision of the beautiful Venugopala at the time of his last breath: " adharahitha charu vamSAnAlA: makutAlambi mayurapichamalA; harinilaSila vibhanga nila: prathibha santhu mama anthima prayane" Clearly the great acharya was not afraid of punishment, and he prayed for the thought of venugopla because it is the greatest joy both during one's life and at the time of death as well. So I believe our Acharyas beg the lord to grant them anthima smruthi out of love and not because it is chore that has to be performed. Guest guest
Srimate RamanujAya Namaha ! Srila Prabhupad ki jai ! Dear Vaishnavas, I have been blessed by my AcAryan HH Narayana Yathindrar, Jeer of Ahobila Math to join this group. I read with interest the postings of all Vaishnavas. I thank all the souls that participate in such a virtual satsangam. I give here my views on Thinking of Narayana @ the time of death. I agree with Naarimani Radha Rangarajan's views on why AcaryAs and AlwArs think of the Supreme Lord Narayana @ the time of leaving this material world. It would not be out of place to bring to your attention to the verse in BhagavadGita where Lord Vasudeva says " antakAlE ca mAm Eva smaran mukthvA kalEvaram; ya prayAthi sa madbhAvam yAthi nAsthyathra samsayah" meaning "People who think of Me at the time of their last breath attain My nature (loka); Of this there is NO doubt" AlwArs and AcAryas always try to please the Supreme Lord. No wonder, they carry out this instruction too, of the Lord Hari. Please excuse me if I have said something irrelevant. Probably, I have missed out some earlier postings on this topic.
