Guest guest
Sriman Venkatanatharya: kavitharkika Kesari Vedanthacharya varyome Sannidhatham Satahruti! ------- Thoopul Divya Desa Vaibhavam - Part II ------- Moolavar: DeepaPrakAsar, Vilakoli Perumal, Facing West ThAyar: Maragathavalli Theertham: Saraswati Theertam Vimanam: Srikara Vimanam Pratyaksham : Saraswati This divya desam is called "Thiruthanka". "Thann" in tamizh means "Cool" and "KA" means "Garden". As Brahma conducted the yagam in this Cool Garden, it is called Thiruthanka. Saraswati followed the demon "MAyaNalan" who was about to disrupt the yagam. Perumal saved the yagam by holding the demon as "Deepam" and gave darshan to Saraswati. After not being able to disrupt the yagam, Saraswati realizes her folly and joins with Brahma in the yagam. In order to cool down Perumal's hand (which had burnt his hand due to Agni), She resides here as "Saraswati Theertham". More than that, Swami Desikan was born in thoopul. In Swami Desikan's Sannidhi's walls, paintings depicting his history can be found. Swami Desikan can be seen with "Gnana mudrai". Swami Kumara Nainachariar (son of Swami Desikan) installed the thirumeni of Swami Desikan in this temple. It has been said that idol of SriLakshmi Hayagreevar which was worshipped by Swami Desikan is in this temple. Swami Desikan Sannidhi faces West. Thirumangai Azhwar has sung 2 pasurams on this DivyaDesam. Thirunedunthandakam 14 (2065) pasuram on this divya desam is as follows: Mulaikathirai Kurungudiyul Mugilai Moova Moovulagum Kadanthappaal Mudalaai Nindra Alapariya Aaramudai Arangam Meya Andananai Andanartham Sindaiyaanai Vilakoliyai Maragathathai Thiruthankaavil Veghavil Thirumaalai paada kettu Valarthathanaal Payan PetrEn Varuga Endru Matakiliyai Kaikoopi VanginAlE. In the above pasuram, Thirumangai Azhwar does mangalasasanam with the Moolavar's name, Thayar's name and the DivyaDesam's name in one single line (Vilakoliyai - line 5) In another pasuram, Thirumangai Azhwar tells that he had seen Thiruvenkatathu emperuman in this divyadesam. Ponnai MAmaniyai Aniyaarntha thor Minnai, Venkatathu uchiyil kandu poi Ennai Aaludai Isanai Embiran thannai, Yaam Sendru Kaandum Than Kaavile - 1849 Thirumangai Azhwar tells that he had seen a Jyothi on top of Venkatam. I saw the same Jyothi in "Thiruthanka". Also, Thirumangai Azhwar equates this divyadesam to "Thirukurungudi, Aravamudan (Kudanthai), SriRangam (Thiruvarangam), VeghaSethu (ThiruVegha in Kanchi), and Thiruvenkatam in the following pasuram: Kurungudiyil NindrAnai, Moovulagirkum MudalAnavanai Alavida Iyala Aravamudanai, Arangathu Aravanaiyil Palli Konda Aiyanai, VeghAvil Thuyil AmarnthAnai Venkatathu NindrAnai Inda ThiruthanKAvile Kanden Pillai Perumal Ayyengar had done mangalasasanam to this perumal in his Ashta Prabhandam.
