Guest guest
I received the following interesting note from Dr.T.C.A.Srinivasaramanujan (tcasr): In the latest issue of Saptagiri[August 2001], a journal of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, there is an article in Tamil by Sri T.A.Krishnamacharya on PeriyavachanPillai. The name of the Acharya is shown to be translation of Sanskrit word 'Mahacharya", a synonym of Lord Krishna. As revealor of Srimad Bhagawat Gita, He gets this name, says the author. In corrupted form, it becomes 'Macharya', in which form it appears in the name, Krishnamacharya. The author says unlike other names, Raghavacharya, Varadacharya, Rangacharya, Krishnamacharya is the only name which has the joining word'Ma' between the basic name or "Christian" name[Krishna] and surname[Acharya]. The author provides an innovative interpretation of Perivachan Pillai, who is the only saint to have written commentary on Divya Prabandham[though all his works are not extant] People who do not know that Mahacharya is one of the names of Lord Krishna and who are not aware of the etymology of the word Krishnamacharya may be commended to read the aricle by Sri T.A.Krishnamacharya. The journal is available from Editor, Sapthagiri, T.T.D., Tirupati-517 507[india],TTD's Website: www.tiumala.org & www. tirupati.org
Guest guest
srImathE rAmAnujAya namaha srImadh varavara munayE namaha That was an interesting note from Sri Mani on "Mahacharya". There is another great AchAryA with the name of "mahAchArya". He is none other that the great sOLasimhapuram DoddAchAr swamy. It is for this same swamy, for who, even todate, in Kanchipuram (Thiruatthigiri), the famous "DoddAchAr sEvai" is being done on GarduasEvai day. He was a contemporary of Appaya dIkshitar and was the most instrumental person in refuting all the vidhanDAvAdhams of Appayya dIkshitar about Siva parathvam. Actually DoddAchAr swamy always kept dIkshitar at the bay and he couldn't succeed in his mission to write vyAkhyAnams for the upanishads based on Siva parathvam. The mAdhvAs also played an important role in this aspect to keep dIkshitar at the bay. DoddAchAr swamy's kainkaryams towards Sri AkkArakkani emberumAn of sOLasimhapuram are enormous. I will attempt to write about it later. AzhwAr emberumAnAr jeeyar thiruvadigaLE saraNam adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan, Thirumalai Vinjamoor Venkatesh Enjoy being an Indyan at http://www.indya.com
