Guest guest
It was a real pleasure for us to get a taste of "real" kalakshepam style rendering of sharanagati gadyam. The subject was "paramarthika bhagavaccharanaravinda....." churnika or verse. The commentaries of Sri Sudarshanasuri, Sri Periavacchan pillai and sri Vedanta Desika were dealt with line by line. The upanisadic statements and all the connected issues of upayatvam etc. were taught in the class. Those of you who are interested should definitely try to get on this next week sunday evening 6:30pm Pacific time. Among all the prasthana trayas : Gita, Upanisads, Bramha sutras, gita is said to be of prime importance. In Gita the charama shloka is the essence and its meaning is explained in the Sharanagati Gadyam of Sri Ramanujacharya. Particularly, since the explanations are given in ENGLISH, it is a treat for all of us who might have difficulty in dealing with the tamil/manipravalam medium of Sri Periavacchan pillai and the sanskrit of the other two great masters. It is really worth it and thanks for Ranganathan Hemmige who requested this series. QUIZ: Usually the upanisads teach bhaktiyogam. However there is an upanisadic statement which indicates direct angi prapatti ie. prapatti to attain directly salvation instead of attainment of bhaktiyogam and thru that attain salvation. which upanisadic statement is that? THOSE OF YOU WHO ATTENDED THE CLASSES SHOULD NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION, SO AS TO ALLOW OTHERS TO THINK ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I request all of you to support these type of classes in one way or the other. adiyen Krishna Kashyap Make a great connection at Personals. http://personals. Guest guest
Sri: SrimatE Gopaladesika MahadesikAya Namaha, Dear Sriman KalaLe Swamin, Adiyen believes the upanishadic salutation that Swamin is referring to in this context is "yO BrahmANam vidhadhaadhi poorvam mumukshuvai saraNamaham prapdhyE" Additional Vedic messages attesting to the margam of SharaNagati are the KatOpanishad salutation "Prapatti sarvasya sukritham" and the Sri Sooktham salutation "tAm padminImIm SharaNamaham prapadhyE alakshmIrmEnashyathAm tvAm VruNE", which reflects the appeal of a Baddha jivan upon surrendering to the Lotus Feet of Mother of the Universe (Mahalakshmi) to rid them of the Alakshmi (innumerable cycles of births and deaths from beginingless time as a result of Karma),which comes in the way of attaining the Dhivya Sampath (eternal Kaimkaryam for the Divine Couple at their behest and for their pleasure). In the sAdhyOpAya AdhikaraNam of Srimad Rahasya TrayasAram, Swami Desikan quotes from the Ahirbudhnya Samhita (an important Pancharatra Agama text). Specifically, he uses Mantrarajapada Stotram salutation "namaskArAthmakam yasmaI vidhAya Atma nivEdanam" to show that prapadhyE is SadhyOpAyam. Guest guest
Mumukshurvai sharanam aham papadye is the verse from the upanisads, since the sentence does indicated directly that "being desirous of moksha, I surrender". This verse is quoted by sri Vedanta desika in the bhasyam on sharanagati gadya - paramarthika. By the way, Dr. NS Anantha rangachar lecture is at 6:30pm Pacific this sunday. regards, Krishna
