Swamy Deshikan Thiruvadigale Sharanam !!!

adiyEn had posted a mail a few days before requesting help from interested

bhagavathas in sponsoring one day's nityaradhanam (poojai) at Thuppul

Deshikan and Deepaprakashar sannidhi. A lot of responses have been recieved.

Thanks for the same. The forms will be dispatched to all those bhagavathas

in a separate mail.

In this post, an attempt is made to highlight the objectives of this Trust

and some associated information about it. Please use this info and spread

the word to everyone interested in supporting this kainkaryam.

Thoopul Trust

Sri Vilakkoli Perumal, Thoopul Vedantha Desikar Charitable Trust was set up

on 23-9-1993 with the express desire to provide for the daily poojas, at the

sannidhis of DeepaPrakasha and Thoopul Desika. Thanks to some noble devotees

the trust was able to collect a corpus fund of Rs.2 Lakhs, which would

provide for enough oil, flowers, sandal and rice - the bare minimum required

for conducting poojas twice daily. Taking into account inflation, the

salaries for Bhattars, cooks and veda vidwans, it has been estimated that a

corpus fund of atleast Rs.5 Lakhs would be necessary for ensuring that daily

poojas are conducted comfortably for many years to come.

The Trust has taken on the onerous task of approaching philanthropists,

bringing to their notice the pitiable situation at Thoopul, collecting funds

and deploying them to restore to this place its pristine glory and

greatness. It has now chosen Internet as one of its media for appealing to

public.

The audited account details of the Trust are available and will shortly be

put on this Web site. For now, the workings of the basic requirement of

conducting daily poojas is being presented as follows :-

Expense Heading Amount($/month)

Rice 90 kgs. 40

Curds 60 lts. 30

Flowers 10

Salaries to Bhattar/cook 4 nos. 50

Total 130

Average daily expense is around 4$. In order to ensure a day's pooja, a

corpus of 30$ will have to be maintained. This would fetch an interest of

around 4$ which can be used for daily poojas.

Besides providing for the bare minimum that is daily poojas as per Agama

shastra, the Trust has big plans viz.

1. Arranging for daily Parayana - recital- of Desika's works at His

Sannidhi, by vidwans

2. Arranging for Vidwat sadas during the Desika Utsavam

3. Renovation of temple complex

4. To improve the standard of living of the priests of Vilakkoli and

Deshikar temples

5. To supplement the expenses incurred in connection with the monthly

Shravanam festival

6. To conduct vidwat sadas annually by inviting scholars and also to conduct

discussion on Swamy Deshika's works

The Trustees request all to appreciate the spirit in which the appeal is

made to them and extend all possible financial support to the trust to

preserve the cultural heritage of the country.
