Guest guest
Swamy Deshikan Thiruvadigale Sharanam !!! adiyEn was one of the blessed to be in Srirangam on the day of Paduka Avataara Thirunaal, that was on the 9th of this month. An eye-witness account of the same is given below. Celebrations started on the 5th at the Deshikan sannidhi that is within the precincts of Periya koil. Swamy Deshikan (utsavar) was seated in a specially made mantapam placed in front of the moolavar archai and was bedecked with jewels and adored with special floral alankarams. It is the morning of the 9th, the time is around 8 am. A huge bhagavatha goshti around 300 is present inside Deshikan sannidhi. These bhagavathas had been reciting Padukua Sahasram over a period of 5 days. The last paddhati that is "Phala paddhati" was to be recited on the 9th before the periya shaRRumuRai. After thiruvaradhanam at the sannidhis of Lakshmi Nrusimhan and Lakshmi Hayagrivar and Swamy Deshikan, the goshti is all set to begin the parayanam. The parayanam begins with great rhythm and melody. The goshti first started with the divya-desha panchakam (*) of Swamy Deshikan and then continued with phala paddhati. The reverberations could be heard every where in the misty morning air as Swamy Deshikan seated himself majestically to listen to his Arangan being extolled. After the parayanam of phala paddhati, shARRumuRai begins (a real long one). Some stotrams like Abhiti stavam, Pillai Anthaadi, Thirunaal paattu etc were also sung. Sambhavanai was offered for the entire lineage till Deshikan. The goshti then dispersed with tirtha, shaThari and prasadam In the evening a special Deshika Stotra pata parayanam was organised. The huge bhagavatha goshti assembled again at 4pm and went round the Uttara veedhi singing all Deshika stotrams. The goshti came back at around 5:30pm and assembled in front of Thayar sannidhi. This was one of the most thrilling moments when Sristuti was sung in great tempo. The goshti assembled again at Deshikan sannidhi for the shaRRumuRai and tirtha goshti and dispersed with the singing of Divya desha panchakam sung by Swamy Deshikan. ====================================== (*) - Note - Divya desha panchakam of Swamy Deshikan - This is a collection of shlokams found in the esoteric (rahasya) works of Swamy Deshikan. In these Swamy Deshikan has extolled the Perumals of Srirangam, Thirumalai, Kanchipuram, Thirunarayanapuram and Srirangam (). ====================================== A thirunakshatram day like this is not celebrated for any other composition. This truly speaks of the glory of Sri Ranganatha Paduka Sahasram of Swamy Deshikan. Shall make available the photographs on one of our websites. vAzhi vyAkhyAmuddirak kai !!! vedAntasUri charaNau sharaNam prapadye !!!
