Guest guest
Apoorva Ramayanam – III. “kO gunavaAn?” – Sowsheelya guna Guha sakyam Valmiki, in Srimad Ramayanam, states “thathra raja guho nama Ramasya Athmasamas sakA”, in the context of Sri Rama reaching Ganga and Guha following at the Sri Rama’s feet. “Ramasya Athmasamas sakA” is a very gem of presentation. The act of Sri Rama hugging Guha on seeing him is also mentioned as “tham Arththas samparishvajya Guho RaghavamapravEth”. Periyalvar refers to the sakyam as “GuhanOdu Gangai thannil sEranintha thOzhamai kondathum Or adaiyAlam”. Kamban writes: “GuhanOdum aivarAnOm munbu, pin kundru sUzhvAn maganOdum aruvarAnOm, emmuzhaiyan pin vantha aganamar kAthalaiya! NinOdum ezhuvaranOm pugalarunch kananthanthu puthalvaraR polinthan unthai” Sri Rama states Sri Dasaratha not satisfied with four sons, sent us to the forest and we got Guha as a brother in Ganges shore, SugEva in the hills and VibhEshana! We got you as the brother here – thus your father got seven sons. The word “unthai” is to be noted – Sri Rama does not state “enthai” – my father or our father, he states “unthai” – your father. This is an example of Perumal mixing with his devotees fully. Sri Thirumangai Alwar referes to “Ezhai Ethalan kEzhmagan ennathu irangi(periya thirumozhi 5-8-1) referring to Guhan. Such being the qualities of Guha, being born in lowly hunter caste, with no rational sense, and natural antagonistic feeling to living creatures, Sri Rama, being born in Surya kulam Ikshvagu vamsam, Lord of all Iswarya, maha budhiman and the chakravarthi thirumagan, mixed with him taking Guha as he is, as in the words of the Alvar “sEranintha thOzhamai”.
