Respected All:

Pranams! I have a doubt in manifestation theory in

visishtadvaita school. What is the tool that has been used by

Brahman to create this world and other things?

Thanks,

Respectfully,

Ramanan Rajagopalan

Dear Sri Ramanan,

I will try to answer this question to my limited knowledge. There are two

tools He uses to create this world.

1. He Himself

2. His sankalpam

1. Himself :

He is the a) upAdhAna kAraNa b) sahkAri kAraNa & c) nimittha kAraNa. To

explain this, the making of pot by a potter is always cited as example by

all our poorvAchAryAs. In this the clay that is used to make the pot is

called the upAdhAna kAraNa, the potter who makes it is the nimittha kAraNa

and the wheel which is used is called the sahakAri kAraNa. So as per the

visishTAdvaitha philosophy, He Himself is the reason, for the creation. He

is the tool, like the wheel, the potter and the clay.

2. His sankalpa

Though all the above three materials are available, unless the potter

decides to make the pot, it will not be made. Here this decision is taken

by the decision to create the world. This is the sankalpam.

I have tried to answer these to my knowledge. Please correct me for errors.
