Guest guest
Hello everyone! I saw the message copied below from another member of this group. I have joined this group just a few days ago and this is my first posting to this group's discussion forum. So, unwittingly, if I have violated any of the rules, pl. forgive me. I am responding since this topic is interesting. Vegetarianism has come to acquire many connotations, the most appealing among them to Hindus in general being non-violence. Strictly speaking, no living being can sustain its life, without eating another living being. Only the degree of violence is different. In the case of vegetarians in India, that seems to be the guiding principle and not the purely medical reasons. It is heartening to note that for the modern sedentary lives, vergetarian food (without the milk and milk products that are usually considered acceptable), provides maximum protection against coronary problems and gastrointestinal cancer. I would like others to throw more light on this subject. Thanks. Swamy (Note: Swamy is part of my name. I am not a Sanyasi or a spiritual Guru.) bhakti-list "bzzzz_23" <bzzzz_23 | Block Address | Add to Address Book Sun, 27 Jan 2002 15:50:29 -0000 vegetarianism?? hi sometimes i tell my friends who eat non-vegetarian food to try and resist eating them since they are killing an innocent life. but they try to argue with me that being a vegetarian doesnt change the picture. because being a vegetarian means killing plants. so does it really matter if we kill plants or animals ? where is it mentioned that animals should not be eaten ? are we justified in telling others to resist themselves from eating non- veg food since we are killing plants ?? the only diff i have found is that animals show resistance when they are to be killed where as plants dont. i know this is not a very appropraite question for this particular group. but i am optimistic that i will get good response. thank u in advance sandeep ----------------------------- - SrImate rAmAnujAya namaH - To Post a message, send it to: bhakti- Privacy Policy- Terms of Service - Guidelines 1994-2002 Inc.
