Guest guest
SrI: SrI GarudAya Namas Thubhyam Sarva SarpEndhra chathravE VahAnAya MahA VishNu: ThArkshAya amitha tEjasE Dear BhakthAs: Garuda BhagavAn alias Pakshi Raajan alias VynathEyan alias VihagEsvaran is the vAhanam for SrIman NaarAyanan.Swamy AlavandhAr saluted Him in the first slOkam of Chathus SlOki as : " VedAthmA VihagEsvarO vaahanam tE " and reminded us of Garuda BhagavAn in the context of the VibhUthi dhvaya sEshathvam of PirAtti . Swamy Desikan recieved Garuda manthram from his uncle/ AchAryan and performed japam on this powerful manthram at Oushada Giri and had the bhAgyam of saakshAthkAram of Garuda BhagavAn. VynathEyan presented Swamy Desikan with a Moortham of YOga hayagrIvan and also blessed Swamy Desikan with SrI HayagrIva manthram. Swamy Desikan performed japam of SrI HayagrIva manthram and was blessed with the sEvai of Lord HayagrIvan, who is the foundation of all VidhyAs (AadhAram Sarva VidhyAnAm). Lord Hayagrivan's laalamrutham fell on Swamy Desikan's lips and that divine prasAdham caused Swamy Desikan to become Sarva Tantra Svatantrar, Kavi Taarkika Simham and Nigamaantha MahA Desikan . Swamy prayed to Lord HayagrIvan to be seated on the throne of the tip of his tongue to guide him in all the debates with para matha vaadhis and the Lord agreed . Swamy Desikan also says that all granthams that he wrote were nothing but the writings of Lord HayagrIvan on his uLLam .He was just an instrument in the hands of Lord HayagrIvan. Thus Swamy Sesikan's links to Lord HayagrIvan originated from the recitation of the powerful Garuda manthram , which was his kula dhanam . Swamy Desikan out of a sense of gratefulness to Garuda BhagavAn composed two sthOthrams on Pakshi Raajan. One of them is revered as Garuda DhaNDakam set in DhaNDakam metre. The other is the Garuda panchAsath. adiyEn wrote two postings on Garuda DhaNDakam back in 1995 and covered the meanings of this majestic salutation of Swamy Desikan .They are available in the Bhakthi archives (dates of November 4 and November 5, 1995). Tomorow is the day of 12 Garuda Sevai at ThirunAngUr , when Thirumangai Mannan is blessed to have the darsanam of the 12 Dhivya Desa EmperumAns in and around ThirunAngUr. GhOshti recites Thirumangai's paasurams on these twelve dhivya desa EmperumAns. Those who have the bhAgyam of the darsanam of the 12 KshEthra Naathans of ThirunAngUr dhivya desams on the back of Garudan at ThirunAngUr are truly blessed ones. Their bhAgyam is comparable to those who witness Garuda Sevai at Kaanchi ( VaikAsi and Aadi ThiruvONam ), SrIrangam ( Thai , Maasi, Panguni and Chitthirai) , NaacchiyAr Koil ( Kall Garuda Sevai about which SrI Rengarajan posted an article in the Bhakthi list few months back ), AzhwAr Thirunagari Nine Garuda Sevais for Swamy NammAzhwAr. Garuda BhagavAn is Veda Moorthy .His nakshathram is SvAthi , which is the same as for Lord Narasimhan. Garudan incarnated as PeriyAzhwAr at SrI VilliputthUr and became the Father-in-Law of Lord RanganAthan and had the privelege of having his daughter and son-in-law live at his home in SrI VilliputthUr, which is known today as NaacchiyAr ThirumALigai. At TheruzhunDUr dhivya desam , Garudan stands next to Aaamuruviyappan (GhOsakhan) awaiting His Lord's wish.At AhObilam, Garudan performed penance for the darsanam of Lord Narasimhan as He appeared before PrahlAdhan and the Lord responded to his tapas by giving Darsanam to Garudan as JwAlA Narasimhan. Hence one of the names for AhObilam is Gaaruda Sailam/GarudAdhri. At BadarikAsramam , Garudan is blessing us with his darsanam in the ghOshti of Nara-NaarAyaNAL, (Badari NaarAyaNan ), ThirumahaL and other sevakAs of Sriman NaarAyaNan such as GaNEsa and KubhEran. At ThiruveLLiyangudi dhivya dEsam , He is present in PerumAL Sannidhi with Sankham and Chakram as a Nithya Soori. At ThiruvallikkENi, He gives the darsanam with His Lord , GajEndra Varadhan , in a separate Sannidhi. Since Garudan is Veda Svaroopan , adiyEn will conclude this posting in salutation of Him with a Saama veda Mantram , which is also seen in Rg Vedam and Atharva Vedam : yadhindra prAg apAg udannyagavA hUyasE nrubhi: simA purUnrushUthO asyAnavesi praSardha turvaSE --UttarArchika Saaman: 1231, Rg Vedam:VIII.4.1, ATarava Vedam: XX.120.1 (Meaning): Oh Magnificently luminous Lord ! in whatever quarter You may be residing , be it East, west, north or south , Your BhakthAs invoke You to hasten to their sides to protect them and give them comfort. Oh PraNata-arTi-hara PrabhO! Oh Magnanimous One! May Thou readily come without delay -when You are invoked- to them , who vigorously follow You . When such invocations are made by dear bhakthAs like GajEndran , our Lord is carried on the back of Garudan in great haste for Bhaktha SamrakshaNam.
