Guest guest
Post 14 Dear Srivaishnava perunthagaiyeer, In the previous 2 posts [6 slokams each], we saw the naaga pathnees praise the lord sri krishna in a very beautiful way. Before we take up the sthuthi two points. 1. What is the name of the dance, which krishna did on the snake hood? Any reference? For this question the reference is in the yaadhavaabhyudhaya slokam we saw in post 13- thadh uththamaangam parikalpya rangam tharanga nishpanna mrudhanga naadham | prasasyamaanas thridhasair akaasheedh avyaapahruthaaBhaaraBateem anantha || Slokam 121 chapter 4 sri yaadhaava abhyudhayam of swami desikan The name is aaraBhatee. Just to go a little into that word or name of the dance - dictionary says - for the word "aaraBhata" - a courageous man. In drama or dramatic sense "aaraBhata" means representation of super natural and horrible events on the stage [refer page 150 of Monier Williams samskrit english dictionary]. Yes. Here the supreme lord sri krishna does the dance which is in every way super natural and courageous act only. So you can very easily call this as "aaraBhatee" - so the dance on kaaLiyan hood is aaraBhatee. Sri Uththamoor swamy in his yaadhavaabhyudhayam commentary puts this as narthum aaraBhateem anantha, without specifically mentioning this is the name of the dance. Sri villivalam swamy [prakrutham HH srimadh azhagiya singar] in his sri vishnu puranam commentary puts across that aaraBhatee is the name of the dance which krishna played on the hood of kaaLiyan. 2. How was this sthOthram of naaga pathnees? The answer is "even better than rishis and munis who do this so regularly and religiously". This is not a statement from this writer [who is a very small insignificant fry not competent to comment] but from Sri mElpatoor NaaraayaNa battathiri of Sri naaraayaNeeyam fame. See his sloka ayi puraiva chiraaya parisruthathvadhanuBhaava vileenahrudhOhi thaa:| muniBhi: api anavaapyapathai: sthavairnunuvureesa Bhavannamayanthritham || slokam 4 canto 56 meaning: Oh, lord guruvaayoorappa! All these serpent wives, having for long, heard of thy greatness, had their minds absorbed in thee, and so they hailed thee with hymns of praise, charecterised by unrestricted exuberance and wisdom, which are beyond the powers of even great sages. This slokam from naaraayaNeeyam is referred Sri Villivalam swamy [prakrutham HH srimadh azhagiya singar] in his commentary on Sri vishnu puraanam - pl refer volume 2 page 676 [5 th amsam- chapter 7 dealing with kaaliya mardhanam] to highlight the unique way how these naagapathnees praise the lord. When his pathnees did so much sthuthi of the lord and apparently the lord is also pleased with for being praised in such a beautiful way, will the sufferer husband of these ladies lag behind? Definitely not, that too after getting the touch of that glorious feet and hearing that geetham- patta marangaL thalirkkum geetham -even a tree started blossoming at his feet's touch and hearing the flute music. Though srimadh bhagavatham did not elaborate that much like sri vishnu puraanam, which gives 10 nice slokams. See here the slokams first. Let us have the meanings in next post. Dear bhakthaas, the sthuthi of the snakes, male and female, kaaLiyan and his pathnees are worth emulating by us. In doing so we are going to please that sthava priya: krishna. So let us do that guNam paaduthal - which guNam - you can decide- to do that aavi kaaththiruppEn. Dhasan Vasudevan m.g. PS: since the length of the post has put the restriction, let us take up the meanings and points in next post.
