Guest guest
SrI: Dear BhakthAs: There is a Rg Veda Manthram that triggered my thoughts on the importance of sthOthrams about SrIman NaarAyaNan. This manthram is housed in the seventh canto of Rg Vedam ( VII.32.13): mantram akharvam sudhitham supESasam dhadhAtha yag~iyEshvA poorviscchana prasitayas taranti tam IndhrE karmaNA bhuvath (Extended Meaning): oh Mumukshu ! Recite a hymn (eulogy) that is deep in artham , well composed(uttered) and which is auspicious by all counts(SravaNa MangaLam , Manana mangaLam et al). To such a bhAgyasaali , the snares and the bonds of the world will stay away ( will not entangle him ) since he has surrendered himself at the sacred feet of the Supreme Being thru his devotion and MahA VisvAsam . Swamy Desikan's sthOthrams are in this category . Swamy Desikan himself was inspired by other sthOthrams of PoorvAchAryALs like Swamy ALavanthAr, KurEsar , ParAsara Bhattar and of rishis . adiyEn will focus on three sthOthrams .Two of them are in SrI VishNu DharmOtharam: (1) Srimath ApAmArjana SthOthram: Excerpts (2) SrI MaangaLya Sthavam . The third one is JithanthE Sthothram . It has Vedic links. Swamy Desikan quotes some of these slOkams in his magnum opus , Srimath Rahasya Thraya Saaram. Does anyone have a full Sanskrit text of JithanthE SthOthram and/or PeriyavaacchAn PiLlai's Commentary? Please let adiyEn know. Thanks in advance. In the coming days , adiyEn will post articles on them and seek SrI OppilA-appan's anugraham to engage in this Kaimkaryam .
