I believe I have followed most of the discussion on this topic, and hope I am

not repeating some previous discussion below. I looked up at the translation

provided by Dr. Mati Srinivasan, and published by varAhi Publishers, for this

pASuram. For the word "pandanai", he gives the simple meaning "kaLaippu". In

other words, periAzhvAr is performing mangaLASAsanam for the removal of the

"Sramam" or "tiredness" of Lord narasimhan after tearing apart hiraNyakaSipu.

If we use the maning "kaLaippu" for the word "pandanai", the understanding of

this interpretation is straightforward.

SrI uttamUr vIrarAghavAcAriyAr gives a similar explanation. His anubhavam is

that Lord nRsimha is barely born, and did not have the time to grow up and

develop into a strong person, and right away He had to handle hiraNyakaSipu and

kill him. periAzhvAr is concerned that bhagavAn may be undergoing bodily pain

as a young child (bAla pIDai), vATTam (being tired) etc., because of this, and

it is for the removal of this strain that he is singing paLLANDu: pandanai =

anukkam; "piRanda uruvam vaLarndu balishThamAga vENdiya kAlamaLavu viLambikkAmal

anda kshaNattilEyE asuranai samharittavanakku EdEnum anukkam - bAla pIDai,

vATTam mudalAnadu nEriDakkUDum enRu AzhvAr ninaittu.....".
