Dear Srivaishnava perunthagaiyeer,

Continuing the gOvindha sthuthi by wives of kaaLiyan, the naama "om

mahaathmanE nama:" remains sweet on the tongue even after completing the

previous post. So let us have four more points.

1. om mahaathmanE nama: - om, prostrations to you, the supreme being

possessing supreme valour. In bhattar bhaashyam this nama is given a meaning

as-

"mahaathmana: vaasudhEvasya veeryaaNi vidhruthaani

nakshathra arka aadhi ...." the stars, sun, moon, earth, etc are supported

by the supreme valour of that supreme being vaasudhEva. This proves the

prowess of the supreme soul.

2. "sarvalOka saraNyaaya raaghavaaya mahathmanE" - viBheeshaNa

recognises and says, when he lands in the sands of the beach, where monkey

army is assembled just before starting to lanka. The full sloka is

nivEdhyath maam kshipram raaghavaaya mahaathmanE|

sarvalOka saraNyaaya viBheeshaNam upasthitham||

17th slokam 17th sargam in yudhdha kaaNdam srimadh

raamaayaNam

meaning: please inform quickly, to that raaghavan, the

supreme being, possessing supreme valour, who is the abode for surrender by

all in the entire world, that vibheeshaNan has arrived.

3. mahaathmaa is one who does [or how he acts] what he preaches to the

world, and preaches what he does, as recognised in this world. [though

literally the word mahaathmaa may not give such a meaning]. It is well known

and established adequately that raama does what he talks, talks what he

does. So there is no wonder that one from enemy camp is addressing him as

mahaathmaa.

4. It is said in present day "quality management theories" as per

international standards organisation [iSO- which incidentally also means

equal], the mantra for quality is "say what you do, do what you say". So it

is clear that these modern management priciples are taken from ancient

scriptures- mahaathma is the person and his actions, sayings, qualities, are

the basics, principles for this "quality" and its management.

Continuing the next naama in the sthuthi is "om paraaya nama:" meaning-

"Prostrations to you oh ulterior".

Dictionary says para: means ulterior, exterior, ancient, final, last,

highest, supreme, absolute being, universal soul etc.

In naaraayaNa anuvaakam in purusha sooktham comes up a sloka

naaraayaNa parO jyOthiraathmaa naaraayaNa: para: |

naaraayaNa parO dhyaathaa dhyaanan naarayaNa: para: ||

meaning: that naaraayaNa the supreme purushan is the jyOthi the light, that

naaraayaNan is the matter for doing dhyaanam, or mediation.

The next naama in the sthuthi is "om paramaathmanE nama:" - prostrations to

you the supreme soul. In SVSN this naama is appearing in 3 places- in the

introductory slokam 4, prelude to dhyana slokam starting "asya

sree-mahavishNu paramaathmaa---", and as 11th naama in the 1000.

Paramaathmaa is supreme soul, and is the transcendal reality.

parO maa asya ithi parama: |

paramasya asou aathmaa cha ithi paramaathmaa ||

meaning: he, who has NO one above him is parama: supreme and aathmaa is the

inner soul. So such a lord is the inner soul for all and called

paramaathmaa.

Lord is glorified in sri vishNu puraaNam as

paramaathmaa cha sarvEshaam aaDhaara: paramEswara: |

vishNurnaama sarva vEdhEshu vEdhaanthEshu cha geeyathE || 6-4-10

meaning: that supreme lord is paramaathmaa the inner soul and basic for all.

All vedhaas vedhaanthaas sing him with the name vishNu.

See how these wives, of kaaLiyan the snake, have understood the lord and

sing his glory. Another excellent soul, who has understood the lord is

maNdOdhari wife of raavana. When raavaNa is slain and she enters the arena,

starts saying

mahaa balam mahaa veeryam dhEva sathrum mahoujasam|

vyakthamEsha mahaayOgee paramaathmaa sanathana: ||

anaaDhi maDhya niDhanO mahatha: paramOmahaan |

thamasa: paramO Dhaathaa sankha chakra gadhaaDhara : ||

slokas 11 and 12 of sargam 111 in yudhdha kaaNdam srimadh raamaayanam

Just observe the words, "mahaa yOgee, paramaathmaa, sanaathana:, paramO

mahaan, sanka chakra gadhaaDhara:" etc which are clearly attributable to the

lord vishNu, the raama avathaara, standing in front of maNdOdhari, who just

had slain raavana her husband.

It is all gOvindhan's leela. Hey krishna - you play your game so beautifully

that gives contrasts in minute things also as well bigger things.

Eventhough husbands are bad in character, the wives are able to recognise

you, the supreme lord [in front in simple form as raama and krishna], and

you make them always to dwell on you in their mind, even though wedded to

such bad characters.

What a way to establish your superiority-krishna krishna.
