Guest guest
Post 23 Dear Sri vaishnava prunthagaiyeer, My sincere apologies for the delay in serving you belatedly with the next post. I am continuing my effort in the series "govindhan gunam paadi en aavi kaaththiruppen" with this post. For those who missed the continuity of the naamaas of krishNa sthuthi by the wives of kaaLiyan the snake, in previous posts naamaas 1 to 13 have been detailed [namaas from 2 slOkaas of srimadh bhaagavatham]. They are 1. Om bhagavathe nama: 2. Om purushaaya nama: 3. Om mahaathmanE nama: 4. Om bhoothaavasaaya nama: 5. Om bhoothaaya nama: 6. Om paraaya nama: 7. Om paramaathmanE nama: 8. Om gnaana vignaana nidhayE nama: 9. Om brahmanE nama: 10. Om anantha sakthayE nama: 11. Om aguNaaya nama: 12. Om avikaaraaya nama: 13. Om apraakruthaaya nama: To take up subsequent naamaas from the next slOkam 14. Om kaalaaya nama: 15. Om kaalanaaBhaaya nama: 16. Om kaalavayava saakshinE nama: 17. Om visvaaya nama: 18. Om upadhrashtrE nama: 19. Om karthrE nama: 20. Om visvahEthavE nama: The next naama is Om kaalaaya nama:- 419th naamaa in SVSN. For the word kaala- there are more meanings than one. Kaala means black in colour, kaalaa also mean time. Kaalaa in samskrit is death or the time of death, and this word is extended to mean yama the god of death. Om kaalaaya nama: is very apt for krishNa for he is black in colour- the very word krishna also mean black. So these ladies aptly describes the lord by his colour. "kaala: kalayathaam aham" sri bhagavaan says in srimadh bhagavath geethaa ch X slOkam 30. I am the lord of death or the annihilation personified to all enemies. So kaala: kalayathi ithi kaala: I am the time of counting- so also kaala: leading to Om kaalaaya nama: Now the next naama is kaala naabhaaya nama: - there is no such naama in SVSN. The naabha: means one who has it in his naabhi- the naval - eg- padhmanaabha:- one who padhmam the lotus flower emerging from his naval- similarly kaala naabhaa is the person who has kaala the time as his central or focal point emerging from him. That is the lord krishna is the creator of time. [Just see and understand the exemplary way these wives address the lord krishna in front of them. Then you will appreciate more the gift of these souls. Oh, it is all krishna mahimai which makes even a small creature is able to give fantastic things.] Now the next naamaa: Om kaala avayava saakshiNE nama:- again there is no naama in SVSN like this. The witness for all parts of time like seconds, minutes, hours, seasons etc- coming in its order in perfect precision. He stands apart from these as witness and at the same time in these as the visvam [which is next naama]. To take the other meaning of death also, kaala avayavas are fire, gale, earthquake, floods etc, which just strikes creating mass destruction. They are also his limbs are parts. [just as an added information in the contract law there is one clause saying acts of god such as flood earthquake etc are to be treated as force majeure- nobody is liable for acts of omission and commission- here god is a saakshee to such a happenings] Subsequent naama Om visvaaya nama: is the beauty in all these. The first naama in SVSN is slightly different in grammar but meaning wise same- SVSN naama is Om visvasmai nama:. Vis means to enter- he enters all souls without exception including time and space. Or all are within him. Sri krishnamachari swamin has given beautiful explanation in his writings. So I am not repeating full comments. Only one slokam here. Ethadh vijaanathaa sarvam jagath sthaavara jangamam Dhrushtavyamaathmavath vishNuryadhO~yam visvaroopadhruk. - says sri vishNu puraanam- 1-19-48 To add the other naamaas starting with the root word "vis" -- Om visvasmai namaH 1st naama of SVSN [in some books this naamaa is om visvaaya nama: which is incidentally our context] Om visvakarmaNE nama: 50th naamaa in SVSN Om visvarEthasE nama: 89th naamaa in SVSN Om visva yOnayE nama: 118 and 151st naamaa in SVSN of SVSN Om visvaathmanE nama: 227th naamaa in SVSN Om visvadhrushE nama 240th naamaa in SVSN Om visvaBhug viBhavE nama: 241st naamaa in SVSN [in snkara paatam this naama is split into two as Om visvabhujE nama: and Om viBhavE nama] Om visva bhaahavE nama: 318th naamaa in SVSN Om visva dhakshiNaaya nama: 426th naamaa in SVSN Om visva moorthayE nama: 722nd naamaa in SVSN See the amount of depth in knowledge and capacity, these wives have to praise the lord. We will continue in next post with more naamaas. Dhasan Vasudevan M.G.
