Guest guest
SrI: SrImathE rAmAnujAya namah: Dearest Srivaishnavas, In the first ten, AzhwAr enjoyed Kutti’s walking and running; now in the second ten (patthu), he enjoys the time upto KaNNan stopped drinking breastmilk. The third ten starts with anjuvan ammantharavE.. (Scared to feed you breastmilk..) Now in the first decad in second hundred, he enjoys Kutti KaNNan’s poochhi kaattudhal. Little toddlers, sometimes attempt to scare the elders (or think they do); and the elders also pretend getting sacred.. The child wears a terrifying look like a lion or tiger and scares; this is addressed as poocchi kattudhal. KaNNan does that. Let us enjoy with AzhwAr. AzhwAr enjoys considering himself as one of the cowherd women folks getting sacred by Kutti KaNNan’s appoocchi kattudhal. mechchoodhusangam_idaththaan nalvEyoodhi poychchoodhilthORRa poRaiyudaimannarkkaay paththoor_peRaadhu_anRu baarathamkaiseytha aththoodhan_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan (1) Sarva shakthan- omnipotent- who has the white conch shell (being praised by all) in His resplendent Hand; who blows and plays the divine flute; who, in order to be helpful to Paandavas [who had lost everything in the deceitful gambling play and who were patient] went as a messenger and could not get even ten small villages for the five kings and organized a huge battle field for them to win- Such greatest dhUthan- this darling child- oh ammA! He scares me with His poocchi kaattudhal.. (pretending and terrifying facial expression) Here the blowing of conch was praised by everyone; that blowing alone scared DhuryOdhAnAdhis to death; Also the poocchi kattudhal- Sri UttamUr Swamy writes: unlike other children, for Kutti KaNNan, it is showing off His Parathvam (Iswara thanmai) which others are unable to see. Also there is an anecdote to this pAsuram: When Araiyar (by name Uyndha pillai) danced singing this pAsuram, Embaar, Udayavar (Ramanujar), AzhwAr and all others were present enjoying the araiyar sEvai. Embaar also raised his hands towards his shoulders and showed Sanghu, ChakrA; Emperumaanaar also enjoyed this and he said, “this showing Parathvam is appoocchi kaattudhal”. Also DhuryOdhanan was shown Lord’s viswaroopam, when he laid a trap for KaNNan- that is appoocchi kaattudhal. When he shows that “appoocchi kaattudhal”, ocne he shows the Conch and flute; next one is driving the chariot; another with His red lotus eyes sending waves of beauty one after other. If someone ignores His sowlabhyam and sowseelyam he shows His Parathvam and scares them off:-) malaipuraithOLmannavarum maaradharummaRRum palar_kulaiya nooRRuvarumpattazhiya paarththan silaivaLaiyath thiNthErmElmunninRa sengaN alavalaivandhu_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 2. The kings- the strong, mountain like shouldered warriors- were killed straightaway in the battle field and the hundred Kauravas were crushed; Thus, he stood on the chariot of Arjunan (whose bow is bent) driving the same;- that KaNNan- comes near and shows fierceful look- appoocchi kaattudhal. If KaNNan does not stand on the chariot, Arjuna’s bow will not be bent. He narrated the esoteric GitA with Arjuna on the chariot. He did not let the arrows of enemies go past Him to Arjunan. He managed the whole battle field and Arjunan as an instrument performed the killing process. kaayumn^eer_pukkuk kadambERi kaaLiyan theeyapaNaththil silambaarkkappaayndhaadi vEyinkuzhaloodhi viththakanaayn^inRa aayanvandhu_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 3. He climbed on the kadamba tree; and jumped into the deep, poisonous water (due to the presence of KaaLingan therein) and immersed in those waters to search for KaaLingan; jumped on its heads dancing on them one after the other; making musical sounds with His anklets playing His flute; such most wonderful Kutti- this cowherd Boy- KaNNan comes to us scaring us off to the glory. iruttilpiRandhupOy Ezhaivallaayar maruttaiththavirppiththu van_kanchanmaaLap puratti an^n^aaL_engaL poombattukkoNda arattanvandhu_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 4. The cruel Kamsa was destined to be killed, when He took avatar in the dark mid night in Gokulam; He is the One, who was made to understand by the illiterate ones of Gokulam (when they attempted to offer to devendra and later offered to KaNNan ; which resulted in the effortless lifting of Govardhana mountain); one who is a terrible liar; (He Himself steals and organizes for stealing and appears as if He never did any such sort..:-) He is the One who during a bathing, took away the silk clothes disrobed and kept by the small girls (of 7 years of age); Such Lord darling KaNNan- is now scaring us with his poocchi kattudhal. Purattan- liar; it can also be linked to Kamsa; He rolled him so much when he killed Kamsa; puratti puratti aDitthavan.. – enjoys Vyaakhyaanam. sEppooNda saadusidhaRi thirudin^eykku aappooNdu nandhanmanaivikadaithaambaal sOppooNdu thuLLiththudikka anRu aappooNdaan_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 5. The bulls are ready to be tied to (or already tied to) the cart and it is ready to start- that is the time the asurA entered into the wheel and attempted to kill Kutti infant KaNNan lying down nearby inside the cradle; the wheel asurA fell down on KaNNan and our darling with his cute tiny foot kicked the wheel back to let it roll, roll and roll to fall dead.. crushing to pieces; The same darling KaNNan steals butter, Ghee, milk and curd at everyone’s home and when complained, YasOdha never believes it unless he is caught red handed and showed to her; YasOdhA -the wife of king Nandhan (who rules with absolutely no robbery, murder crimes under his rule- except this butter chOran)= sees in her own eyes the stealing of butter, ties Him to mortar with the rope used for churning curd; He, unable to beat the pain and suffering of tying down, jumps and hops with the heavy mortar; crawls to go between the two marudha trees; - That Lord- one who got Himself tied down- is now scaring us. Here when yasodha never believed the cowherd women, vyakhyanam refers her to His mother for being compassionate; while when she decides to punish Him, she is aaclled as Nandhan manaivi (wife of king Nandhan) as she has to punish (being the wife of ruler), taking no pity on Him, the convict:-) seppiLamenmulaith thEvakin^angaikku soppadaththOnRith thoRuppaadiyOmvaiththa thuppamumpaalum thayirumvizhungiya appanvandhu_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 6. This darling KaNNan- who is the Lord as well as the son of the youthful, round vessel like tender breasted Devaki appeared in Gokulam for us and ate the butter, Ghee, milk and curd which are kept by us in this Gokulam very safely and made completely inaccessible by children and still He could eat; That swamy- scares us now. vyAkhyanam’s enjoyment: The Lord first showed Sanghu, ChakrA and then hid them per request of Devaki and became Kutti KaNNan with two hands.. Her breasts are so soft, tender, round so that the little KaNNan can hold it in His hands to drink the milk from devaki. He left all that and now he searches every home as to where the milk is kept and hidden by us; drinks them from the rough pots and vessels. [what an anubahavm by Poorvacharyas!] Devaki should have atleast offered once to KaNnan her breastmilk.- says Sri Sukhabrahmam- pIthasEsham gadhAmruthA. Also vasudEvavaDhUsthandhayam- says Vedantha Desikan in Gopalavimsathy. After that, Devaki let Him go to Gokulam – it is her mahA upakaram to the world. And He (without our offering the butter, curd etc..) takes the milk curd etc.. by Himself; That is mahA mahA upakArakam as our Father. - says Sri UttamUr Swamy. thaththukkoNdaaLkolO? thaanEpeRRaaLkolO? siththamanaiyaaL asOthaiyiLanchingam koththaar_karunguzhal gOpaalakOLari aththanvandhu_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 7. This Lord of ours- Darling KaNNan- son of YasOdhA- the lion cub of YasOdhA – who is so compatible with Kutti KaNNan in His beauty- which makes us wonder if she gave birth to Him or adopted Him- this Lion of cowherd folks –scares us. The mother who adopts the child does not want to hurt the child at any time and at any cost. So, she ensures that the child likes her. While the mother who gives birth to a child, it is automatic and multi folded affection and compatibility; - YasOdhA is neither of them; Still she is so compatible with Kutti KaNNan. She runs wherever He wants her to run. He is like a lion cub for her; But He is like the huge Lion for the cowherd folks. kongai van_koonisoRkoNdu kuvalayath thungakkariyum pariyum_iraachchiyamum engumparadhaRkaruLi van_kaanadai angaNNan_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 8. The round breasted and hunch backed cunning cruel Manthara advised Kaikeyi to go for two boons- Bharatha Raajyam and Rama vanavaasam- giving away the horses, elephants, kingdom, and everyplace to Bharatha – SrI Ramapiraan – the most beautiful red lotus eyed Lord- scares us. When someone talks to you in sugarcoated words, whatever ugly they are they appear so beautiful to us; Kaikeyi praises her beauty and thanks Manthara for her advice. Also the commentary says: as if there are huge breast on the back she appeared (with hunch back). Kaikeyi wonders if she has so many ideas stored in the hunch back and in her breasts. He gave away everuthing to Bharatha. That implies even the Padhukas. Thus, the dharmO vigrahavaan did not commit adharmam even on Bharatha’s behalf; he made him accept the Padhuka raajyam. padhakamudhalaivaayp pattakaLiRu kadhaRikkaikooppi en_kaNNaa! kaNNaa! enna udhavappuLLoorndhu angu_uRuthuyar_theerththa adhakanvandhu_appoochchikaattukinRaan ammanE! appoochchikaattukinRaan. 9. The cruel crocodile catches with its mouth, the leg of GajEndra elephant; and oh no! The flower that I had plucked is going waste- yells the elephant; raising its trunk calling loudly, “KaNNA! KaNNA!”. He came then and there bringing along with Him, the GaruDAzhwAn (not riding on it; he came along with Garuda- so much tvarai- intense urgency to come..) and removed the elephant’s samsaaric afflictions. – such most merciful Lord who can never ever bear the sufferings of devotees – now comes and scares us. KaNNA! Called the elephant- The One who has the red lotus eyes- thamarai kaNNAn, PuNdarIkAkshan. He alone is the lotus eyed Lord. Look with your benevolent glances on this crocodile too; he touched with his chakrA and blessed the crocodile too. vallaaLilangaimalangach charandhurandha villaaLanai vittuchiththan viriththa sollaarndha appoochchippaadal_ivaipaththum vallaar_pOy vaikundham manniyirupparE. (2) 10. The strong lankA city with many warriors was destroyed and crushed by sending the arrows (at JanasthAnam; kishkinthA; the shore towards SamudrarAjan and lankA) by the most valorous Rama- was sung elaborately by VishNu chitthar in good words about the Lord scaring us (poocchi kaattudhal) in this ten. Those who learn this ten (or read this translation) will (do all it takes to) go to Sri Vaikuntham and stay there for ever. Those who get (or show / pretend as if they are ) scared by his poocchi kattidhal will be blessed with PerAdnahdham in Paramapadham. Lord Rama alone is KaNNan. Hence, Rama is sung means: KaNNan also. Also, one can say: Lord Rama (in 8h verse and 10th verse) is talked about VishNu chitthar and other PAsurams are utterances of Gopikas about KaNNan PeriyAzhwAr ThiruvaDigaLE SaraNam Regards Namo Narayana aDiyEn _______________ Join the world’s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com
