Guest guest
[ From Sri T. Madhavan, Tiruvallikkeni, Chennai. Sent to me privately. ] Sri Mani. swami Pranams At the outset let me introduce my self. I am MADHAVAN 48 single, thenkalai vaishnavite, resident of Triplicane, Chennai. Memorized prabhandam 4000 in full and regular attendee of Sri Parthasathyswami temple prabhandam recitals. Kindly permit me to write certain clarifications about thondar and Bhakta. I also request you to see that my note should not lead to any unwanted arguments besides protracted letters thereon. Therefore if you feel it is appropriate please publish. The term BHAKTA ANGRI RENU may be the immediate and easy translation to understand THONDAR ADI PODI. But the bhkatha merely denotes the bhakthi on any godly abodes or for that matter on any thing in the world or anywhere .But the term Thondar means not only the bhakthi on sri narayana but also on his deciples. That is serviceable to bhagavathas primary and secondary to Bhagavan. This is explicitly emphasized by Thirumangai Azwar in his work Peria thirumozhi in 8th century, 10th division, 3rd song, 2nd and 3rd lines. He states that , O sriman Narayana, residing in the TIRUKKANAPURAM , " what I learnt from your name NARAYANA (Ashtaksharam) (eight letters) is no way better than the service to your diciples .i will not mix with anyone who is mingling with other godly abodes. I prefer to be the servant of your disciples. ". Here he notes the word ADIYAR which means THONDAR and the tondar adi podi alwar had also preferred the same service there by he had changed his name. As a matter of fact Swami Nammalwar had mentioned this matter in his works in several places. Our RAMANUJACHARYA HAD PUT THEM IN PRACTICE IN HIS LIFE WHAT OUR AZWARS HAVE ADVISED US. With kind regards. Pranams. Madhava dasan Email. tmaadhavan
Guest guest
Hello All, In his mail about "bhakthAngrirENu", Sri Madhavan has made an excellent reference to the periya thirumozhi 8.10.3 pAsuram. I couldn't resist myself from reading about it... Kaliyan's kaNNapuram pAsurams are very special and I wish to share this pAsuram with fellow 'kaliyan fans!' maRRumOr dheyvam uLadhenRu iruppArO duRRilEn * uRRadhumunnadiyArkkadimai * maRRellAm pEsilum n^in thiruvettezhuththum kaRRu n^An * kaNNapuraththuRaiyammAnE. (8.10.3) In the prose form, we read it as follows: kaNNapuraththu uRai ammAnE! maRRum Or dheyvan uLadhu enRu iruppArOdu uRRilEn n^in thiru ettu ezhuththum maRRu ellAm pEsilum, n^An kaRRu uRRadhu un adiyArkku adimai Oh! Lord, who resides in kaNNapuram! I never associate myself with those who believe in the existence of other gods. Even though the ashtAkshara mantram teaches everything one has to learn, I would still be at the service of your adiyArs. (This is what I have learnt from the mantram) -Viji (Vijay Triplicane)
Guest guest
Hello All Adiyen wish to add a few to what Sri.Viji has written, when Swamy Nanjear was reciting this Pasuram , he had a doubt whether Kannapuram SowriPrumal would be happy to hear , after having taught the ThiruManthra Artham to Thirumangai Alwar, Alwar has told that he is "Adimay" to His "adiyavar". Here comes the reply from Sri.Parasara Battar who was really great and noted for clarifying such Artha Visheshams. As we know that Swamy Nammalwar also did "NedumArku Adiimai" where Alwar finished with "Allik kamala KannanAi", here Sri Bhattar had quoted that, normally Alwar refered Kannan as "Kamala Kannan " only , here on hearing His AdiyAr's perumai , He blosommed in to an "Allik Kamala Kannan" , so when Thirumangai Alwar identified himself as His adiyarku Adimai , He would only enjoy that . Bhattar's nirwakam is so fitting and swamy is always second to none in giving such correlation . If we happend to see the Eedu or other Divya Prabhandha Vyakhanams by Swamy PerivAchan Pillai , there were lot of quotes from the discussion between Bhattar and Nanjeeyar.
