SrI:

Dear SrI Janaki Raaman :

I have not seen this picture on the door.

I can venture a guess, which may be on or off the mark.

According to Sthala PurANam , Lord SrInivAsa borrowed a lot

of money from KubErA an dis still paying it off !

This fat person could be KubEra , whom the Lord might like

to engage in the game of dice to settle the debt load !

KuberA is the Lord of wealth , king of Men and Geni ,

who dwells in his northern capital of AlakApuri.

with his Nava nidihis(nine treasures)!

In PurANams , KubErA is depicted as a white dwarf

with a large body. His name is derived in one tradition

as the "Ku-bEran" or the ill shaped one because of

his fatness and dwarfish stature.

The image has been carved on the Silver side panel on the gate where we enter

the inner temple, ie just after crossing Kodimaram. I faintly remember to have

read about the same Legend, Sh Janaki Raman has stated. May be we can try TTD

site for an explanation about this.

Dear Janaki Raman,

what you heard is correct. The short person is Sri

Hathiramji Baba and one can find the same picture on

the wall of Hathiramji Mutt.

In olden days, this mutt was taking care of the

activities of the Tirumala temple. Like the Jeeyars

and the Hereditary Trustees, these were also a part of

the team in the Temple administration.

According to their version, Hathiramji is devotee of

Lord Srinivasa. He asks for a boon from the Lord to

come and play a game of dice with him. So, it is

believed that Lord used to play dice with him.

I have just briefed the story here. If you want the

details, will try to get you.

Regards

Chakravarthy
