Guest guest
DEAR SREEVAISHNAVITES Aippasi mOlam falls on 8th Nov. 2002. There are several flashes of greatness of swami maNavALa mAmunigaL. In this auspicious moment, I would like to share A flash of Swami s greatness with all of you. Sree VachaNa bhOshaNam -83 Sri Pillai LokacharyAr describes the qualities of iLaya perumAL when explaining the concept of ubEyam- the End/Goal to be attained. " pasiyai iruppAr........padai vEttil pugndha pinbu,kAttil thani idathil, swayam bhagathilE, vayiRRai perukkinapadiyAlE,oppUNuNNamAttAdhE, oru thirukkaiyAlE thiruveNkoRRak kodaiyaiyum, oru thirukkaiyalE veN sAmarathaiyum, tharithu adimai seidhAr' After entering the forest, sri lakshmaNA, in a great desire to do kainkaryam to perumAL, held in one hand the Royal umbrellai.e veN koRRak kodai and on the other hand held sAmaram, indicating the eagerness and the manner in which he performed the kainkaryam. In absence of bharadhAzhwAn, with an intention to do all the kainkaryam iLaya perumAL, did these two kainkaryams simultaneously. The commentary should have ended here. However, balance commentary s portion is reproduced hereunder. The above event is not in rAmAyaNam. Does not the rAmAyaNa slokam ' chathra sAmara pANisthu lakshmaNOnuja kAmaha" refer to the above episode. NO. As the above slokam is in ayOdhyA kAndam, when perumAl leaves his andhappuram to King dhasarathAs palace, sri lakshmaNA does these kainkaryams, this slokam does not fit in here, as this episode refers to the event in the forest. Then, how did Sri Pillai LokAcharya refer to this event ? He has referred this as per pAdma purANam. According to pAdma purANam, uthara kANdam, 49th chapter the slokam commences ' atha thasmin thithE puNyE ...and after elaborately explaining the events ' chatrancha sAmaram dhivyam thrithavAn lakshmaNas thathA' which precisely refers to the aforementioned event. The above vyAkyANam is self explanatory to the greatness. It is indeed really great that wherever one touches periya jeeyar s vyAkyANam such flashes of greatness are found in plenty. It is his greatness to a. point that this is not in rAmAyaNam b. Refer to a rAmAyana slokam which is similar to the event and reject it logically and c. Identify the correct slokam from pAdma purANam to coherently place it to the meaning of the sOthram and the chapter the sOthram belongs to. It is also pertinent to note that the event is most important than whether it is from vAlmiki rAmAyaNam or somewhere else. vAnamAmalai padmanabhan
