Guest guest Posted December 12, 2002 Report Share Posted December 12, 2002 Post 27 Dear sri vaishNava perunthagaiyeer, In this post we will see naamaas of Sree Vishnu sahasra naamam having the common thread of "vEdham, sruthi, saasthram, yOgam, manthram, sidhdhi, thapas, nishtai" -- all relating to how to lead the spiritual life or the various ways of living which a true seeker of god will adopt. Here I just grouped in a way starting with sthOthram- chanting or simply praising, this leads to learning manthraas- the secretives, that leads to yOgam - getting attached to the lord, yOgam combined with nishtai - the object of concentration leads to thapas- penance, which again leads to sidhdhi- success which results as a gain of saanthi - peace. Also same way vEdhaas sruthi saasthram are grouped as one which also gives one the same peace and prosperity if that is desired. 1. sthOthram: 1. Om sthavyaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 684 occurring in slOkam 73 Meaning: he deserves to be praised. The object of all praises. 2. Om sthava priyaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 685 occurring in slOkam 73 Meaning: he who relishes the hymns in his praise. One who is invoked by the chants of devoted hearts. 3. Om sthOthraaya nama: -- naamaa no. 686 occurring in slOkam 73 Meaning: eulogy of the lord - the hymn. 4. Om sthuthayE nama: -- naamaa no.687 occurring in slOkam 73 Meaning: he who is praised by all. he who is the act of praise. 5. Om sthOthrE nama: -- naamaa no. 688 occurring in slOkam 73 Meaning: he who praises those who extol him. One who adores or paises. 2. Manthram : 6. Om manthraaya nama: -- naamaa no.282 occurring in slOkam 30 Meaning: the mystic incantation [mananaath thraayathE ithi manthra:] 3. yOgam: The root verb is 'yuj' which means "to attach or to join". Getting attached is what is yOga. yOga is also described as "stopping the thought flow" - yOga: chiththa vruththi nirODha:] Now the naamaas having the thread of yOgam. 7. Om yOginE nama: -- naamaa no. 853 occurring in slOkam 91 Meaning: he who has great skill in making even impossible things to happen - one who can be realised through yOgaas. 12. Om mahaa thapasE nama: -- naamaa no.123 occurring in slokam 13 meaning: he endowed with great tapas, tapas has 3 meanings - knowledge, prosperity, might [jnaanam, aisvaryam, prathaapam] 24. Om su thapaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 197 occurring in slOkam 21 meaning: one who has glorious thapas - of supreme knowledge. 7. saanthi: 25. Om saanthayE nama: -- naamaa no. 591occurring in slOkam 62 Meaning: he who quiets all powers and activities in his parama samaadhi. - perfect meditation. One whose very nature is peace. 26. Om saanthi dhaaya nama: -- naamaa no. 594 occurring in slOkam 63 Meaning: one who grants eternal peace to seekers who have firm devotion to him. One who gives inner peace and job to devotees.
